Hello all. I am looking forward to getting the WZ-120 within a month or two and decided to research it some more. Reading up on it, you see it's a Chinese copy of the T-54, with a couple of differences from it's predecessor. Chief among them I noted the armor; the 54 has 120mm front plate vs the 100mm of the WZ. I looked up the T-54 and saw that it's front armor is only 100mm too. Is there any explanation of that discrepancy? Also interesting to note is that the WZ-120 is heavier than the T-54 with less frontal armor too.

There were some models with a 120mm plate

When alternative hulls are enabled, you'll have both the 100mm and the 120mm versions

120mm version was fat and slow. Like a SPershing.

It also only had 520 hp.

TBH it makes no sense why Wz120 doesnt have fat hull for "Game Balance" the T54 has more than enough Laser Beam Gun handling to make up for the 120`s terribad boomstick.

Infact 440 Alpha doesnt really make up for it. Esp with Lower depression.

In RL the T54 would be much the same as a T59 feel, much much more sluggish.

M48`s were much more agile and much faster in 90% of terrains

That's interesting that you get the better hull default. Thanks for the reply. Btw, how did WG come up with penetration on the HEAT shell? With that much pen why even bother with AP at all?

I've heard talk that eventually they might be the introduction of 100mm or 120mm T-54 hulls with 120mm hulls being much heavier.

While 120mm was trialled on the T-54 it was a failure, due to it overburdening the systems. Most tanks that had such failures don't see systems that were directly ruled out from being implemented IRL added, but not for the T-54.

This is Wargaming too so no doubt it won't be options for 120mm frontal armor and 100mm frontal armor, but for 120mm frontal armor and 150mm frontal armor when different hulls arrive.

The T-54 has an upper glacis thickness of 120mm, while the T-55, which is related, but not exactly the same, has an upper glacis thickness of 100mm.

T-55

I'll have to talk to somebody with more info about Chinese tanks, but I suspect that the WZ-120 is either based off the T-55, or they chose to reduce the armor thickness to 100mm.

No this is very first T54. One that was not used really. Only a few thousand were made. The main T54 we all think of was 100mm thick and only had a D10T.

WG is Ruski biased esp when using the most Iconic USSR tank ever made. There market is mostly Rus so making it real which would feel more like an IS6 than T54 wouldnt be as fun.

520 HP 120mm Plate with a 100mm that was about as good as a 90mm. Or a 560 HP version with 100mm and a 10mm gun.

In reality what we have ingame is advanced T55 with a experimental engine 1/3rd overpowered. Pattons on the other hand were really 800 HP

Also at OP

Heat spam is by far the most Op tank in the game. 330 Pen but with its accuracy is just....Damn.

You can seriously compete with t54`s vs T62`s in a lot of cases heat vs heat and TBH T54 IMo is better. I like Obj140 more because itsdepression and APCR but T62 vs T54 I like T54 more.

It's cool tank, no doubt but, to me, stands above much of its competition. I hope the WZ-120 is as much fun when I get the 122 =)

According to what I read in FTR when alternate hulls come (announced how long ago?) you may not be able to get the top turret and gun on the 120mm version of the hull
