Ok I understand the normal .dds and crash .dds files but what are nm and sm .dds files for??
is the specular map. It controls the ammount of light reflected by each zone. Dark zones reflect less light and bright zones reflect more light.
If you are using a very saturated color for your vehicle, it's a good idea to fiddle with the SM so it doesn't look like you're driving around a supernova.
is the normal map. It gives out the effect of volume (3d if you will).
Not of much use for pure skinning, but it is of use when it comes to custom modelling (If you want the new models you make to have a better sense of volume that is).
For example, I used it at one time to give volume to the bolts of a custom model of a skirted jagdpanzerIV.
If you're skinning for non custom models, then you only need to worry about the SM.
