How to make your own pretty or fugly tank skins.
1. Download and install
gimp.
2. Download the .dds plugin Here -->
gimp-dds Grap the windows.zip file from the top left, under "downloads"
3. Unzipped the dds.exe in the following folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\GIMP-2.0\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins"
4. Find the skin you want to mod in your game fodler i.e "C:\Games\World_of_Tanks_closed_Beta\res\vehicles\german\G18_JagdPanther.dds
5. Make a backup of the original so you can retore it when needed.
6. Start Gimp and Open File of the skin you want to edit. G18_JagdPanther.dds
There are two skins you can modify, the main one and the crash one. (JagdPanther.dds JagdPanther_crash)
7. Edit the file using the Gimp Tools.. it works a lot like Photoshop. You can paste other pictures onto the skill as well. The image is ~2k x 2k so you look for images that size for new skins, or photoshop it to be that size.
Tips from other threads:
Paste your image, then right click it. Select Layer > Transparency > Color to alpha. Removes the background of the image your pasting making it semi transparent.
To align your image use the transform menu. Right click, Layer > Transform
To blend your image use layer menu to lower the opacity before flattening your image.
8. When you are done, click "Image" then select "Flatten Image"
9. Save
