Interestingly, not a Russian tune, but Welsh...Michael Giacchino, you so silly.

I have played with the music off for some time now. It was a distraction and sometimes would cover up other more important sounds, such as what my platoon mates were saying in TS.

But my suggestion would be anything by Johnny Cash. Occasionally I will roll out with Roughneck's Johnny Cash music mod.

The problem is that that music is copyrighted, and WG would need to pay a huge fee to license the song to use it. So why not just play it yourself while playing WoT?

Like all the other songs that WOT has license could be put in the best interest of the players! Thank suggestion I have ever used in my games to give more excitement in victory.

Wisdom. It's what I do.

However, is there a chance that some of this music could be royalty-free? After all, the Welsh tune "Ebenezer" (and thus the hymn "Once To Every Man and Nation") is considered a traditional/spiritual, and that's why Giacchino blatantly used it for the Russian theme. If an alternate version could be found using the same tune, it could be implemented without issue.

While the melody could be license-free, any recording thereof still is owned by the recording artist. For example, if WG were to want to use the Red Army Choir version of Polyushka Polye, they'd still need to pay RAC for the use of their voices and their arrangement of this otherwise royalty free folk song.

As you said, they'd need to find a royalty free version of a song. Or record their own, which is what they did with the Polyushka Polye example.

Gotcha...and so WG (not the most frivolous concerning their soundtracks/sound design) is unlikely to set up an orchestra-choir to record an alternate arrangement then, huh?

Still, if it could be done...we can dream.

EDIT: Ouch, what did I do this time? I'm not knocking WG at all, they just don't have the excess cash to spend on an expensive soundtrack, that's all.

They used synths and keyboards and software for their in-game music.

I know, that's what most games, TV shows, and even short-changed movies use when an orchestra would have been too expensive. It's also led to the contemporary genre of scoring where the midi orchestrations are combined with the larger orchestral arrangement:

This doesn't answer the question of why I got negged though. Did someone think I was insulting Wargaming? I know tons of games with better soundtracks using keyboards and samplers (Halo:CE, C&C Red Alert) than some movies that used full orchestras.

Meh. Rep means nothing anyways. So someone gave you a single neg rep. It doesn't change a thing.

Guess you're right. I suppose I really just want to know what was so disagreeable about what I said (I try to improve my objectivity and understand the other side of an argument). I may never know, might have been something as simple as my signature.

EDIT: Thank you, anonymous internet person. That was very kind.

Honestly, I have tons of music to suggest, but it really doesn't matter from that perspective. Since already existing music won't be implemented (aforementioned reasons), the score we've got will have to be good enough for the foreseeable future. However, there's another reason for not including pre-existing music: pride. Having an original score, no matter how it measures up quality-wise, is always better than just having someone else's music. Composing original music identifies it as your game's own, not to be applied to anything else without the disclaimer that it was applied to the game first. I love contemporary scoring in movies and video games, and honestly think that if it is decided that the score will be re-worked, it'll be using completely original material (with modern touches and/or references to the modern style).

Some neat (militaristic) sounds to ponder on, have a listen:

But we will have new maps which will need new music or it could reform the songs of other maps for more excitement! Given the success of the music of the map Kharkov (Ralicof). So contribuinção put my ideas and I see that many people also have great ideas to share! So this open space so you can query the source of WOT and other games of the genre Wargaming ideas. An interesting channel for interaction with the public taste! Dented ess two songs are great games!
