Okay... aside from being a better player (I have over 1300 matches under my belt between beta and live... I dont suck ass) whats going on here and is this normal.

Here is a situation from a few games ago;

Driving an IS-3, I lost a match with 1 Kill, Critical hits on 2 vehicles, and spotted 2 vehicles.

Payout was $11,000
Repairs were $9,800
Ammo was $3,800

Walked away with -$3,000, give or take.

Premium acct taken into consideration, is this normal? Since getting my IS-3 a few days ago there have been a handfull of money losing matches only a few of which were just complete failures on my part.
I have had premium since live dropped, so if this is normal I have no idea how the cheapskates manage to move up.

Assuming you shot three rounds only, that is a pretty poor round and I'm not suprised by your payout.

Here is a tip... use HE rounds on targets that are not a direct threat, example would be if a tiger and IS2 were having a shoot out, and your just watching it form a safe distance, HE the enemy tank..But if your in a duel with another tank that is threating you, use AP.

The higher up you go in tiers you go, the harder it is to make a profit; a fully upgraded IS-3 can be a good money maker if you are good and lucky. But, the entire point is to make high tiers cost more so players need to use their lower tier tanks to pay for the high tier one, so you don't end up with all tier 9 and 10 tanks.

High tier tanks have significantly higher running costs, this is by design. If you have a poor round in one then you will suffer financially for it.

Tier 5 tanks are the best moneymakers in the game, and it gets progressively harder to make money the further up the tree you go. This is by design to encourage people to use their low/mid-tier stuff.

Fair enough... So long as its a game dynamic.

Seems a bit odd though... I like the idea of discouraging every one from playing their biggest tank all the time, but the risk vs reward should scale. i.e. Putting a Tier 8,9 or 10 on the field could mean you win big or lose big. That doesn't really seem to be the case right now. I had a 6 kill game in my IS-3 and I think I cleared $40k, I make that much all the time in my RamII. (like someone mentioned, Tier 5's do seem to make the most.

The ram 2 is a premium tank as well, so it earns a bit more.

also remember the higher you go up in tiers the more each round of ammo costs for the bigger better guns so your 6 kill is-3 game your cleared 40k was also effected by each round you had fired as well.
Does seem to be a odd game dynamic but once i thought about it.It does keep the game from being horribly bad for new players as would literally be no one in the lower tiers after 6-8 months for new players to really have any chance of really decent matches with but with this in place will always be some there for them.

I think I remember reading something about the best tank to earn credits with a while back. A poll on the Russian WoT server said that the best tank to gain credits was...the T-34 with the 57mm ZiS. I kinda agree with the result, but I had a Ram in OBT. That thing made LOTS of money.

I've also heard the Churchill, although a decent tank, is also a good moneymaker.

That's a useless *tip*. HE is useless except for targets you cannot penetrate or if your gun is a howitzer. Most of the time it is better to use AP.

Not quite.  HE is very useful on targets that I *may* penetrate.  On my KT, if I'm shooting 105mm rounds at an IS4, I may penetrate, but I may also bounce and waste 1k credits.

Using HE means that I'll do pretty decent damage (on the lower glacial plating or side) and hopefully break even for that shot.

No. Unless your gun has shit AP penetration, if you can't penetrate it with AP, it has so much armor that you're unlikely to do any respectable damage with HE. HE does reduced damage to heavily-armored parts of the tank.

I think you're missing his point. You are approaching it from a tactical point of view, he's approaching it from an economic POV. For you, maximizing the damage is your goal. He's trying to maximize the amount of money he makes while still doing damage. It may take him 5 HE shots to equal one penetrating AP round in terms of damage, but there's no guarantee he'll GET that penetrating AP shot.

Playing better will help.  Not just your playing (although that is big), but the tank being better equipped / upgraded.

My first 40-50 games in my IS-3 were not too good for credits.  After getting some upgrades it is much better.  Break even or good profit for every game unless things go really bad.

Now in the IS-4 and I'm finding it pretty good.   Went on a horrible run with the tank stock, losing 70%+ of my first 60 games or so.  Now I'm winning more, and making pretty good credits on it.  So tier 9, with premium and it is a positive credit earner for me.
