The guns in the game aren't lazer boresighted, ie not that accurate. At range the best you could do is aim for either turret or hull. Therefore, if anything the skins are a placebo.
At range you are correct, but up close in a brawl where a seconds hesitation could spell doom?
My platoon mates use these and they tell me their close quarters brawling ability has skyrocketed because they can consistently get critical hits on vital areas with no problem. Ever wonder why your ammo/engine/gun/gunner gets taken out in close range combat all the time?
At worse the skin allows people to not concern themselves with learning through experience, at best it is an invaluable teaching aid in practice battles.

folks it's not cheating nor underhanded if it complies with the rules of the game. some folks may not like it, but it's a lot like arty; it's in the game, so deal with it
Fair because the skins are available to everyone? Not really. I didn't know anything about the Hitzones Skins until I read about them on another forum (where they are considered cheats). So I doubt the majority of the WoT players are even aware of their existence. Although they are probably wondering why their main gun is being knocked out more frequently than it used to. And why their engine gets hit more often than it once did. Etc., etc.

It is nothing like arty. You are comparing apples and oranges
it wasn't meant to be a direct comparison to arty as much as there are a lot of people who hate it, but it's working as intended and in the game, so complaining about its presence won't do any good. i could have as easily said its like the people who complain the game should be free; that change ain't gonna happen.

So don't claim you know what the future holds because you don't. And neither do I.

I do know this; they are working on a skin system for the game so I do not know if you will still be able to add your own skins or not after this is implemented. I'm pretty sure since there is a change in the works that if it affects these skins in any way shape or form that they will not do anything else until they see what they outcome of that change is. If they plan to lock out skins later why fret about it now?
They've not only not done anything to stop people from using skins but actually have a contest for user skins, so I doubt the devs are against the use of custom skins at this time. I could see them creating their own skin repository for people to submit their skins to, and once approved you will be able to browse them and download them in game. If they don't (assuming that is what happens) host the target zone skins then it is not an endorsement of the use of these skins, but if they do then it is. If they do implement this system they may or may not lock out the ability for people to use their own skins (which I hope they don't do as it is a great tool to see the tank you are skinning while making changes).
I will say that I do not think the hit zone skins are as big a deal as people make them out to be, but to be fair I've never tried one and I do not wish to add to their download count just to see what the deal is. I will say from the screenshots of them I have no interest in seeing them at all when I can make my own or download someone else's skins that I like. For the most part I like the realistic skins, but I've also used the fun ones like the schoolbus Russian arty.

You don't know anymore than I do what the end result is going to be. And once word gets around about the Hitzones skins, I think there is a very good chance that skins like this one will not be permitted.

Thank you for the enlightenment, Webtroll.
Oh really? The original post in this thread was "Posted 17 May 2011 - 12:02 AM" and I just learned of the Hitzones skins yesterday from a post in another forum. I have since posted a link to this thread in yet another forum and the members there were not familiar with it either. That's why I believe the "word" hasn't gotten around yet. But it will.

As for being less confrontational, all I'm going to say is that I am not a doormat.

It seems like every time I get hit I get modules knocked out, and I was wondering why. I thought I was driving a glass tank, but this may explain it.

Can I get instructions please on how to replace the stock skins with these? Like, which folder(s) should I replace, etc.?
And for those of you dissing this, good for you, however, as for me, if I get an advantage, I'll be damned if I don't take it.

n00bpwner, just replace 'res' folder in your game with the same folder from archive.

Umm... res folder? All I'm seeing is a preferences.xml, and a dossier_cache folder that contains 4 folders with names I'm not even going to try at.
This is all in my "World of Tanks" folder. My "WoT" folder is completely blank.

For the argument about the legality of these skins given they're "available to everyone", I would point out that the tracer "hack" they just banned was probably available to everyone. Availability doesn't make it any more fair.
That being said, I'm definitely going to use the skins for Lowe's and KV-5's (assuming theyre included) until this type of thing's officially banned, since the wallet warrior tanks are both lame and hard to kill.

Lowe's gun mantle is not "weaker" armored, in fact it is harder to penetrate that than the front glacis. A lot harder.

When player skins are visable bet you want see these
, I can understand them for basic training new people not sure after that.
I don't need them somebody showed me a thread way back in beta that showed most of the tanks Schematics like ammo racks and engines weakness I used that to learn the game.
