Low FPS

wookieebate's Photo wookieebate May 20 2011

As of recently, my connectivity was ok (about an average of 18-28 fps per game) but since the last patch, it is now like 5-8 fps in the open field battles. Am i the only one having this problem. I have a decent computer. Dual core processor 4 GB ram and an Nvidia GT 220 1GB graphics card.

My computer is similar at least to yours, i3, 4GB DDR3, GT220 1GB. My frame rates are between 30 and 60 the entire time, medium settings, pretty low resolution. "connectivity" is generally used to describe latency, or ping, in miliseconds.

Having the same GPU, I find that particle effects wreak havok on my frame rates. If a shell explodes infront of me kicking up dirt, my frame rate drops terribly. I also disabled the smoke effects from the gun shots, no more 5fps after shooting  :Smile_great: .

There are other ways you can increase your frame rate outside of the ingame graphics menu. I believe you can modify one of the .xml files, though I have never had a reason to do this myself so i cannot give you any details.

Turn off "shadow" alone might help.    I haven't yet tried to turn it off in WOT, but I know in many other games this option alone can make a huge difference.

Go into

WoT installation folder/res/particles/tank

rename everything that starts with the word "shot". Don't delete the files, just rename them, i did so with a negative (-) infront of their original names.

let us know if this helps

Try the "search" function. There are only about 100 posts on increasing framerates and connectivity. But, you must READ carefully and you must READ the whole thread. I was having framerate issues, did a search for "low fps" and "low framerates" and found several posts that helped me out.

I did this earlier today, so dont take any of this as absolutely correct. Also, refer to the post I used, which can be found using Search, using the key words "low framerate" or "low fps". I think you know the one I mean.
First thing is to search your hard drive using key word "worldoftanks". The file you need is normally hidden, so you willhave to adjust your advanced search settings to find hidden files. I only got one file under this type of search and it was the right one, so I will assume this for you as well. Once found, open it and you will see an xml file. Right click on this file, look for the option to Open with, and open with Notepad. Once open, find the terrain mesh setting and reset it from 0 to 2. Save and exit. Enjoy your new higher fps.

Wasn't that terrible actually, still got 40 fps on medium settings. It has since been replaced with at GTX 275 though.
