Made this in a convenient, colorful possibly easy to read image.

what negative effects does muzzle smoke have? is it responsible for lag?

no, but it's a lot easier to see your rounds in flight. You tend to hit your more often because you can see why you were missing.

Yeah, and the smoke effects often can lower FPS in sniper mode just after you fire.

I'm assuming the other files in that folder are for other tank effects like fire and exhaust, right?

If so do you know which ones are for engine exhaust? I've found a big chunk of my framerate problems come from lots of smoke and engines are pretty much always running..

this fix is now only a fps fix as they have removed shell tracers. :(

I need all the fps fixes I can get, but would this be considered a bannable hack?

Not a hack. You can freely modify any file you want in the wot directory. You can even replace your tanks model with another tank or even switch gun models around.

But all this is visual only for you and effects no stats so if you put the lowes gun model on a loltraktor it will still use the loltraktor guns stats.

I would also recommend you simply rename those shot files instead of deleting them so you can easily roll back the change if you get a better performing computer.

I think the devs (Overlord, please) should answer whether this is a allowable mod and which of these files could be deleted safely.

I personally think it is an excellent deal.

What about backing up the files?

In CG terms, it's called 'pluming effects'. It is one of THE most frame hogging effects around.

Running water, fog, blowing leaves, fire, smoke, engine exhaust, and many other effects are all 'pluming.

Nope, you are not imagining it.

Those same files which you used to modify were also used to HACK.

That's why the files were moved to the server.

i did this and it didn't make the smoke go away...it's still there every time i shoot. i really hoped this would work because i can't zoom in and shoot at all since it makes my framerate drop to about 5fps for about 3 seconds. any ideas of why it didnt work? i deleted those 9 exact files.

ok now i got it to work...no more smoke effects. BUT, it gets stuck on the loading screen when entering a match..it shows everyone's name and everyone connecting, and then i start to hear the countdown, but it doesn't put me in the match at all.....i'd rather play the game without zooming in, than not playing at all...now i gotta re-download everything

http://forum.worldof.../page__st__20   dont delete files just rename them

"Go to the following Folder inside your Game Folder: D:\Programs\World of Tanks\res\particles\Tank

Inside this Folder Rename the following Files from this:

shot_big.xml
shot_big_PT.xml
shot_big_SAU.xml
shot_main.xml
shot_mb_main.xml
shot_mb_small.xml
shot_small.xml
shot_small_auto.xml

to this:

shot_big.xml_
shot_big_PT.xml_
shot_big_SAU.xml_
shot_main.xml_
shot_mb_main.xml_
shot_mb_small.xml_
shot_small.xml_
shot_small_auto.xml_

Do NOT Rename shot_MTLS_auto.xml as this seems to remove the Tracers."
