I watched Fury a few days ago and I wonder how the Hull Gunner/Radioman sees where the hull MG is pointing when all he can see through is just a simple periscope way above the gun.

It's a movie. Try not to break your brain making sense of it.

The U.S. did as well, the WW2 era mounts were the exception to the norm.

At close range, your first indication will be the dirt-plumes kicked-up by the bullet strike.

Against more distant targets, or in Limited Viz conditions, you would watch your tracer-stream ...

Every 5th round or so is a tracer, so you fire a short burst to watch for the dirt-plumes kicked-up by your bullet-strikes and/or your watch for the tracers. Then, as you fire, you correct your beaten zone accordingly. Although the guy behind the bow MG would have few opportunities to do so, the coax and top-side machineguns would usually be "walked" onto more distant targets by raising the muzzle of the machinegun and walking the bullet-strike onto the target from an area just short of the target, onto target, and, in some cases, just beyond the target.

You can best replicate this effect with the T7 Combat Car. Note that the more distant your target is, the larger the beaten zone is, and the fewer the number of rounds actually striking the target.

Also, as Meplat alluded to, Hollywood is hardly ever a good source for the history of anything, with the possible exception of Hollywood itself ...

There's a tractor beam that just makes Germans run all up in the front of the tank so you really don't even need to aim.
