Why does that not insult me? Oh, yeah, you've had over 8000 FRICKIN BATTLES.

That wasn't meant to be an insult.

I don't see how you could take it that way.

Just pointing out that you've had over 8000 battles, so it makes sense that you say that the T29 is weak.

M6 is my favorite tank overall, not to mention favorite T6 heavy.

Played right, it's got great balance of:

  • excellent mobility
  • good/decent frontal armor
  • very good gun depression/hull down ability
  • very good ROF
  • good alpha
  • good/very good accuracy

For me, its a mix made in heaven.  MANY of my Youtube vids are M6 material:

The M6 and T29 are the only 2 tanks I have 2 Marks of Excellence on...so far.

Heres one of the most recent good matches.  A force to be reckoned with (with the 90mm gun) even against Tier 8's.

You can get the signature for your stats from WoTLabs.net.  However, I doubt you'd be able to get them because you have less than 1000 battles.

Like the OP, I am pretty much a newb.  The M6 and T1 are the only Heavies I have played.  I am not qualified to really rank them...

I have learned that I have become much more conscious of MY weak-points than those of the competing heavies. But I have certainly not been that intimidated by the KV-1 and KV-1S.  Yes, the KV-1 seems a bit better as frontline brawler than the T1 due to some armor everywhere and higher alpha when playing "peek-a-boo."  But the T1 has the (relatively) awesome turret - at least for level 5's - if you can use terrain to your advantage.  If not, you will be cursing about your weak driver's hatch in the T1...  But really it seems like a battle with any Tier 5 heavy in a T1 can go either way - depending on skill - which is the way it should be.

The enemies that terrify me are rather the hidden TD's that seem to be able to cut through any armor like butter, and the arties that LOVE my 25mm upper decks...

With regards to the M6, I find that my armor doesn't seem to be much of an upgrade, really.  The 90mm is though, and grinding my way TO the 90 taught me quite a bit of good stuff about weak points in others that I have been able to start to apply to driving my T1.

I always liked the M6 more than the T1 Heavy.  The M6 was the first tank I could actually use to any decent effect, and it's still my favorite tank to date.  The 90mm is an overall good gun, decent accuracy, good aim time, and it has a good enough dpm.  Also, every once in a while the tank will bounce something it never should have (120mm from the T34, BL-10 on the ISU-152 as examples.)  Also, the turret armor can be troll pretty well, so hull down is a good position for it if you have to dig in.

Ill take my E2 over M6 any day of the week.   the 90mm is nice, but not even close to a decent trade for the far superior armor

OP, it all depends on your play style really.  I hated the T-1 Heavy, but I can absolutely destroy in my M6 on the battle field... it's the only tank I have 11 kills in 1 battle.  It's an excellent Strong Hold tank as well.

However, I do quite well in my Church VII, T-150, SU-100, etc.... these tanks are excellent as well in the right hands, but they play much differently.  If you find yourself doing well in your M6, then that's the one for you.  You're also right about the KV-2.  I have danced with many KV-2's in both my M6 and T-150 and have handed them their a$$ almost every time.

As a side note, the T-29 is probably the best tier 7 tank.  Yeah, the SU-152 can get a lucky shot in from time to time and really do the damage, but if they're in a good hull down position with a bit of support, the T-29 will own that position almost every time... unless you see a couple of IS-8's and a E-75 coming your way.... in those cases, run.... lol

In a tier 6 match, I think the KV-85 and the T-150 are better, or at least easier to play decently, than the M6.  Flip side, the M6 has better mobility and better gun depression.  I think it's a bit better at higher tiers.  It's easier to flex, flank and do damage with the M6, especially when you can hull-down (near impossible with the '85).  It responds decently when played as a medium and can get out of trouble and avoid shots.  The T-150's armor, while very good in a tier 6 match, is pretty irrelevant at higher tiers, and it's too sloooooow to get away.  I preferred the M6 to the old KV-1S, the gun handling was world's better.  I really can't say compared to the '85, it seems fairly similar.

As I think I said above, when driving your own tank you can learn more about your own weakness than those of others.  I have heard so much about how the M6 is so mobile - and yet last night I was in a platoon with two KV-85's and my M-6 and off road, I had a hard time keeping up with them.  Of course, on hills, it would be no contest - I have so much more HP per ton.  But the -85 has a faster Traverse speed and less terrain resistance that the M6 - and that does matter.

All tanks are tradeoffs. You have to figure out what works for with your play style, and the maps you see most often. So off road I had a hard time.  But put me on hills where I can get hull down and use my depression?  No contest...

The armor of the M6 actually isn't very good for a Tier 6 (other than the 102mm front). There have been many times when I get sniped by a TD only to lose a track, then get teamed by like 3 other tanks.

The KV-2's armor is EVEN WORSE than the M6's. The frontal is in the 70s, the side is in the 70s, and the back is in the 70s. The turret is the same.

Ya I was gonna point that out too :P.  OP, if you want tanks to compare the M6 with, try T6's like the KV-85 or the ARL 44, both of those are sixes. IMO, the T-150 is the best T6 heavy in the game (for pubbing, its a little too slow for SH).

EDIT: Also, at 800 battles how many other T6 heavies have you even tried anyway?

Yeah, i've often planted an AP shell straight through the front/side armor of the KV-85. :D

M6 isn't about armor. It's about mobility and gun depression & control. It's also got great RoF/DPM and an insane APCR round at tier 6. You can penetrate any tier 8 heavy tank frontally with its APCR round, on their strong points.

It's my favorite t6 heavy since the early days.
