Slightly off topic however this thread reminded of the Asian soldier who was captured and forced to fight in multiple nations during ww2

Welp, someone has to fight and it's not like there are many qualified "locals" to do so....

Now reading about that in more detail, I'm surprised they didn't try to work that into Band of Brothers even if just in passing

small penises and anti clockwise pushing? Or is that too easy? I'm going to have to go on the record and say that I actually don't believe what was in my last post in this thread. It was what it is sometimes referred to as a "joke", and I might tell a few more before I find a better hobby.

Ill forgive non US natives for not appreciating how the Irish were 2nd class citizens before during and after the US civil war and missing the joke.   As crazy as it sounds today, the Irish were not viewed as white, were expected to compete with slaves after the war for the same jobs. led to the draft riots in NYC of 1863 where wealthy white northerners could opt out of the draft by paying for a replacement.....and mostly Irish rioters rioted against free blacks in NYC in response. But yeah. Its hard to type in a Stephen Colbert font.

The plight of the Irish in the north is often used in conjunction with the emancipation proclamation which freed slaves only in the confederate states and not the union as a whole as proof the civil war was about a federal grab for power over the state governments simply wrapped up in a bow of "free the slaves" to rally popular support. Hard subject to debate between emotional baggage and the fact the war accomplished both.
