What absolute tripe.

Well you know what they say....  If life gives you tripe,

Spoiler

Block Quote

Artillery is broken because it allows a person to do damage with little risk (outside of very specific instances which if named, you're grasping at straws).

You are the one grasping at straws here.  Arty runs the same risk as every other tank on it's team for the only stat that actually matters when it comes to competition - win rate.  Because no matter how long or how often arty survives, if the rest of it's team loses, it loses too.  Sure, it can survive till last, and has a bit higher chance of surviving the battle, but since when are survival rates relevant stats?  This is a team game, and arty has the same risk of losing as everyone else.

Block Quote

Artillery also is broken because it's a hard counter to skill. You learned the maps, sped your way to the most advantageous position for you medium tank,

set up shop and begin wrecking house, and you get murdered by someone who is actively not participating in the battle the same as the rest of you.

So basically, you're saying arty is a counter to learning a map so that you can go camp the same spot over and over again, which is your definition of skill?  Okay, I don't have a problem with arty being a counter to that type of skill.

Block Quote

That's why artillery is broken: it's a reward for playing a different game than the rest of us.

Makes what makes sense no.

Block Quote

Artillery isn't fun because I perfectly aimed shot can still miss, thus taking skill out of the equation. You can say regular tanks are subject to this but

the very nature of the mechanics behind these vehicles lends themselves to being more at the mercy of rng.

That's your opinion.  Mine is different.  :)

I see this guy is still being willfully ignorant that most of the playerbase does not like how arty is implimented.

Nothing to see here folks, move along.

So I'm being accused of being willfully ignorant of made up facts?  Yeah, I agree with that.

That's funny, I look forward to how  a certain other game is going to handle the issue.........

But enjoy your hyperbole.  I hear it goes great with cheese and whine.

What's funny is that you think people won't incessantly cry about arty in that other game.

According to the russians, you are the krayfish...just sayin.

And notice that, like 99% of the arty threads, this one was started by a pro-arty krayfish/olen

Are you sure about that?  ;)

I'll never get tired of people copy/pasting this. 83% of the database owns an end-tier artillery piece, totally not a made-up statistic.

Which leads into one of my big gripes about arty.  If the tank fires it hits or misses, does damage or doesn't.  If it does damage it's within a predictable range.  All of this is while worrying about positioning, return fire, etc

Arty fires, it could miss and do no damage, miss and do a little damage, miss and do a lot of damage, hit and do a little damage , hit and do a lot of damage, hit and pen for its full alpha, which is

Spoiler

All the arty player did was aim in the general direction of the tank while sitting 700m away.  The rest was decided by WG servers

While this is true, again, the vast majority of shots, at least for me, just do basic half damage.  When I do full damage, it's a surprise, a rare treat. When I get a one shot, it's a holy crap moment.  Splash misses of varying degrees are always less then half alpha and meh unless I get a few tanks at once.

The OP has said some stuff that I can't refute, but I don't like arty so I'm going to claim he's sooo wrong, that it's not worth my time to respond.  Then I'll question his ability to be rational and hope I don't appear completely irrational in the process.  And to prove my point, I'll click a little red square and encourage others to do the same.  That will really drive the point home.

I think SerB made that up, I don't see that many people using tier 8+ artillery, let alone tier X. He also said it's impossible to get 50%+ wins in artillery, definitely not true.

If I recall correctly, that quote came out just before WG pushed tier 10 TDs in to the game while hugely buffing TD camo so all of a sudden every match was full of 850 alpha, 300 pen DPM monsters that couldn't be spotted. Gee, I wonder where the TD problem came from?

Half damage sounds bad until you realise that for something like the T92 half damage has a range of 844-1406.  Not to mention all the additional module damage

That quote also came from a mysterious "insider" that has never actually been verified to exist.  Those same emails that say 83% of people play tier 10 arty (most people who make an account never even play more than 1000 games) also mentions NA developers....of which there are 0

I love to play my arties, yes i am a noob for it, but in my point of view, its your fault for staying in the open, you might have seen the guy next to you die by arty and think "Arty just fired, ill sit here and move right before he reloads." Wrong move arty reloads faster than you think. I have also developed so called "skills" to lead tanks and mediums who back up left right left right left right, most end up in the same spot when they go dark. I favorite the meds because of rolls that can do damage over a thousand than sit there and hit heavies for 200-500 damage. My favorite targets to hit are batchats and leo's going 60 down a hill, they never see it coming.

Actually, at the time of that quote it was not uncommon to see 4 to 5 top tier artillery in tier 10 games.

Which would justify saying 83% of players who have made it to end tiers play end tier arty (though I would still have a hard time believing that), but the quote states that 83% of all players have end tier arty.  I would be extremely surprised to find that 83% of players have any tier 10 at all

Yeah, exactly. Artillery doesn't punish camping. Shooting at moving mediums is the way to go, because you'll hit them eventually and their game is over when you do. Even if you miss it'll do a bunch of damage and track them, so either result works. I shoot at the fast guys whenever I play artillery just because they're lit, and the hokey pokey doesn't matter because every tank loses so much speed while turning. They either drive in a straight line, so they're not turning and easy to lead, or they zig zag, so they're slow and easy to lead. People who act like artillery is something you can actually avoid while playing actively seem to think that tanks can strafe, or something.

The problem came from people complaining about invisible TDs, not from the people that buffed the TDs to the point where no one could see them, even if they were sitting out in the open.

Even Storm said once it is not fair to be hit by invisible tanks which could not be spotted....I just don't know exactly of which class he was talking about.

That large damage sounds bad until you realize that the T92 can only shoot once every 40 seconds or so, while something like a medium can shoot every 5.5 seconds or so.  That's the trade off and I have no problem with it, really.

More context....

We had considerably less nations and less lines at the time as well.  Although I can't remember if top tier for artillery was just tier 8 at the time.

Arty was really really easy to  make money in back in the day given how accurate it was and how cheap they were to maintain.  They were like cockroaches back then.

The medium has to actually engage the target, meaning it is very unlikely it will be firing every time its reload comes up.  It also can't ignore moderate terrain or draw distance.

Besides,  any medium reloading that fast will have around 300 alpha, meaning if he hits someone that person can react to avoid further damage.

Alpha from arty is all front loaded, so once you're hit you're screwed

1) don't have access to that game

2) I enjoy this game despite how broken arty is

3) I haven't whined in this thread - only pointed out how well known the OP is and how mistaken you are.

4) Hyperbole - obvious and intentional exaggeration.    Oh, so you weren't exaggerating?  How terrible!  You really do believe what you said...   But given you haven't gotten 5k games yet, you can be forgiven for not understanding the game enough to "get it" yet.

Would you like instruction on anything else sir?
