Greetings! I heard about World of Tanks and decided to give it a go. The client is currently downloading and I won't have time to try the game until later tonight. The question I have is who should I start out as? US, French, German, or Russian? What difference will it make and is one better than any of the others?

Russians are the easiest to start with.

French are not added yet.

Cheers!

You can look at their statistics and compare the tanks to see which one is more suited to you needs.

If your looking for a clan the Darleks in DIsguise are always looking for more members. :Smile_honoring:

Welcome.

I suggest going to the Wiki ( http://wiki.worldoftanks.com/Main_Page ) and browsing the Nations section that's right up at the top.

just grab whichever tank you fancy. Things don't get interesting until later on in the trees, but I can assure you that every tree is enjoyable. To an extent, I mean. If you can manage to play the SPGs or TDs well, then you will do well in them. Regular tanks are easier to play than those.

Nationality is entirely up to your whim. People will tell you that one nation is better than the other at certain things, and they might be right, but the best thing to do is to just experiment and have fun. Because holy hell this game is free.

This guy is exactly right. Pick the ones you like best. If you are into German history, or think the tanks look/sound awesome, then go for them. Or if you're like me, and play Russian in most of your wargames (medieval, Napoleonic, modern, etc), shoot Mosin Nagants, etc. go Soviet. If you're a big fan of "Blackjack" Pershing, Patton, and the like, or your grandpa drove a Sherman, then pick US. Just go with your gut, ignore the haters, and have some fun.  :Smile_honoring:

My grandpa drove was a ground-crew mechanic and sometimes a gunner on B-25s... which tank should I play D:

My Uncle was Infantry where is my... umm... boots?   :D

You'll have all three nationality's tier one tanks for free at the start, and they are very cheap to operate, so play them all and find what you like.  I found I like them all!

Cool, thanks for the help!

I decided to go with German for now, but I don't understand the starting vehicle, it seems to move slower, pack less punch, and have no more armor than the other starters. Is there something about the Ltraktor that I missed?

Also, how would I go about joining a clan?

If you're a new player, the small differences between the three tier 1s shouldn't affect your game outcome a whole lot. Right now, it's more about learning the basics of how the game works and the tactics that do/don't work well. So, have at it, and have fun!

If you ever go back to tier 1 as a veteran player, then you might be able to distinguish the tier 1 tanks' nuances in actual gameplay.

I'm not in a clan myself, but I'd try contacting the clan leader directly if you're interested. Clans link
