It is also a historic fact that IS-2's upper glacis plate was impenetrable by German PaK 43 8.8 cm gun used by KT and Ferdinand. I want that on my in-game IS. NOW!

IS-2 model 1944 was impenetrable to short 88 (8.8 sm L56). L71 had enough penetration do kill IS-2 frontaly   .

Wonder how many shots it took them to hit the Panther at that range, if the real one is even have as inaccurate as the in game one they must have used a butt load.
- D-25T at test showed same spreading, as 88L56 ~260mm max at 1000 meters. But 88's projectiles have more flater trajectory, than 122mm BR-471.
D-25T at 2000 meters, Target - Pather, hull frontal upper armour plate.

Those are some awesome pics, that panther hull looks familiar, my panther has holes in it looking like that a lot (engine hit, our driver is dead). 260mm spread at 1000m? I wonder why the dispersion was widened to almost 10ft at 500m like what we have in game. Granted I understand why for gaming purposes they make the soviet guns hit hard but less accurate and german guns more accurate with less damage. I guess we all would be playing sniper tanks if guns had historical dispersion.

Granted I don't have a ton of battles in it yet, but is it normal to have your gunner down around a 75% survival rate?  Dude gets massacred.  Loader is in the low-mid 80s, others are in the 90s.

- IS-2 turret is weak (up to 130mm of armour - mantle), so tanks with 75l71 and 88l56 can pen it.

Having played over 50 battles i have to say i hate the IS tank coming from the kv-3 this feels like a joke.

In my kv-3 i could bounce all shots from below my tier and even up to tier 8 shots in my IS i have a hard time bouncing tier 5/6 tanks frontal shots.

Even though they both use the same gun my IS get bounces for about half the shots even at point blank and even when aiming at the rear of a tank.

Don't think i can grind the 80k exp for the is-3 let alone if i also got the 27k engine. If the is-3 is like this i think i am gonna go up the german tree i would rather hit/penetrate and do less damage then none at all.

I dont think the IS is a good tank.

Its got a big speed increase over the Kv-3, but its armor is weaker, which makes it especially weak for tier 7. Its guns until the 122 D25 are nothing, especially the 100mm, which seems far weaker than its stats suggest(bounces short-mid range off tigers and t29 hull), and Im HOPING the 122 will be better, if not I will stop right at the Is and abandon the line, as grining the IS and Is-3(until the 122 BL9 gun) would be a nightmare if it is outclassed by other heavies and outmaneuvered and outgunned by some of the mediums.

It better be competetive with the faster 122 or else its scrap for me.

Strange hearing this. I think I have more Steel Walls in IS than in KV-3 with much less games played. When angled right, IS *will* bounce a few shots. IS is also much more agile than KV-3, making flanking and repositioning much safer. In KV-3 if something doesn't go as planned (say, a T9 rolls out from around the corner, you're flanked by a med etc) - your game is over. You are a sitting duck - you can't run, you can't hide. You can't go and help another flank too - you're just too damn slow. I find that IS is much more forgiving in this department. It is not easymode though. The slow and inaccurate gun that lacks penetration is its main drawback.

My single biggest pet peeve in an IS is bouncing 122mm rounds off a 3601H. that really doesn't happen to me with any other tier 6 tank. I can' figure it out :P Tiger's never bounce, by comparison.

Been doing better with my IS playing peekaboo but still say this tank could use some more penetration or some better accuracy can't count the ammount of shots i have missed or failed to penetrate at under 50m at the same taking damage since everyone can penetrate my armor.

Yes, the AP rounds on any IS gun are useless against nearly all enemies. the 122mm guns shouldnt even carry them, 1000 credits bounces are so painful, like shooting yourself in the foot.

The IS doesnt seem to work. Between the T29, Tiger, and IS, the IS has the lowest penetration gun, with worsts aim time for added measure, along with worst defense(Tiger has alot more health and T29 has better hull and especially turret).

I find it odd that the T29 and Tiger can use AP shells pretty well, but the IS using AP shells bounces against everything, which means mediums like the VK 3002DB and T20 are very effective counters.
---------------------
The IS has the best speed for current tier 7 heavies, but worst defense and offense. Its not really a heavy tank, or even a tier 7, but it doesnt have the speed or mobility of the mediums.

Im pretty much quitting the IS tank, its much to grind all through it to the IS-3, and then grind some more for the 122 BL-9, which Ive heard rumors of that gun bouncing alot too.

The reason the 122mm rounds never work half the time is because the assembly line is located right next to a cheap vodka distributer.  'nuff said.

Does anyone have a recommendation on Ventilation versus Gun Rammer? I have everything researched apart from the engine and would love to have the D-25T firing a bit quicker than my 100% crew can do. Which makes the bigger difference? Thanks!

I preferred the 100mm gun over the low level 122mm guns.  You just have to hit weak spots and try to avoid the brawl.  I got my best match ever in this tank with 8 kills and over 2k XP, so I am a little biased.

The 122 is a difficult gun to learn to use, especially at range, but you can do it.  The BL-9 version is obviously the best, but you don't get that until the IS-3.

The IS line of heavy tanks are very competative and I am drooling for my IS-7.  A heavy that moves better than the Patton and hits harder!  Now that is AWESOME.

I am not holding my breath for the IS-4 going to tier 10.  I know it will probably happen, but not for a while.

You want both

The rammer will be 5% better then the vent on reload time but does not effect anything else

The vent effects just about every stat on your tank.

I drive mine like a medium tank and it gets damn near 2 kills per game average, this tank is a beast.

I used 100mm for a long time, KV3 was grinding ex for 122mm D-2-5T at same time. Is was gathering points for turret and toward IS-3
Because I get put into matches against higher tiers most of the time I use HE much more than PE. I switched gun from 100mm to the slow 122mm D-2-5T.

I was surprised. I single shotted Stug with HE. I was causing much more damage to higher tiers per minute. My XP per game improved quite a bit.
It is all about calculation how much damage HE does. Because 122mm HE is much more potent, less damage is stopped by armor and more gets through, specially if they use spaller. So for me 122mm, even the slow one, is an improvement.

I have rammer, vent, spaller and 96% crew.

the 122s used by the IS are horrible. They are just the 122 used by the Kv and russian mediums, but more accurate, require a slower, higher repair turret, and price hiked shells. I miss my 107mm.

I just dont like the IS. It's armor is penetrated by everything, even lower tiers such as the short 88s. The penetration on its guns is weak enough to bounce even close range, let alone long.

It can do pretty well if its the top tier of a game, but thats rare, so 75% of the time heavies outgun you and mediums outmove you. The regular loss of money unless the game is a win is crippling.
-------------------------------------------
It plays alot like the KV-1-122, but with 2.5 the repair and ammo costs.

where can I find a gun that can penetrate targets to put on the IS? Using HE rounds do little damage, but AP rounds just bounce especially against tier 7s.

Just equip the 100mm D10T on the IS, it's naturally the 2nd best choice to equip on the IS if you can't afford to use the D-25T.
