I sometimes use the IS for sniping...
Although, I try to move in a bit closer so that the enemy tank's hull fills up the reticle. It's pretty effective
but I don't entirely recommend it.

Yes. I've been able to snipe things across the valley on El Hallouf. Motionless TD's are prime targets, as well as tanks going down the hill (they present weaker top armor). Just gotta lead moving ones a bit. It's possible to snipe. Though, about 50% of the time, you'd miss just due to game mechanics

I think you pretty much have to try and take a shot at any target that presents itself in your view, no matter how far it is there is always a chance that you might hit it. While if you don't shoot then you will definitely not hit it

personaly i love the IS tank, while i did like the 100mm gun that i got from the T-34-85, but in most situations the dmg of the 122 mm gun is very usefull though the relaod time is its achilles heel, but good suport and some deceint cover tend to help compensate with the weakness.
All in all it is a great gerneral pourpose tank if used properly, teir 7 and lower fights its a beast, in 7-10 it can compeat to a reasonable degree, but must have good support, comunication and stratagy
My biggest complaints are the insane amount of module damage it takes, espicialy the gun and tracks, an the fact the moment you get spoted in one it seems that every opposeing arty and td seem to have you in their sights, other than that the 122mm painfuly slow relaod time
as for the supposed inability to make money while spending 1k per shot in most cases is total bogus, admitidly one can easly lose money with it in a match but 5-6 good hits and the tank has more than payed for its self even in a defete resulting in player death

It is truly amazing how much different the D-2-5t is from the D-25t.
I actually did 100% against a Lowe today and he didn't even scratch me.
Also took out a KV-3 right after him. I swear I fired only 4 or 5 shots to kill the Lowe and 3 shots to kill the KV-3.

I really love this tank, I always have a kill in most of my rounds, I just have a bad victory rate(thanks to bad players) Great alpha damage, good mobillity, and sloped armor that bounces T5-6 guns sometimes, the main problem is the reload time, and guns broke quite easilly.

I am very pleased with my JS2. 100% crew, rammer, vent, gun layer. 10. something second reload. I generally treat it like a fat medium and use hard cover/work in tandem with other heavies to get the job done. I try to create situations where I will be able to close to the rear and get flank shots. Even the heaviest tanks won't last long when D25T is shooting them in the sides and rear.
Sadly this is not usually possible and sniping must sometimes happen. But despite what people say it is very possible to snipe at long distances with the D25T. Just take your time and make the shot count. I think my accuracy is 76% with it.. would have to check again...
A key to the JS2 is knowing the magic moment to break cover and haul ass before the window of opportunity for a flank shot/decimating series of shots fades away. Stay in cover, but not too long. Just one other heavy covering some lane of fire while you reload helps immensely. When the enemy becomes weak from some pens charge out after he shoots, have your buddy engage its front then look for the side kill. The manueverability combined with its gun is its strongest asset, don't look for its armor to save you.

Well I have some questions for you guys. Now I'm driving the IS-2 fully upgraded, just need the xp to research the IS-3 and I would like to have the IS-4 before the russian tree revision. what is the fastest way to get the IS-4 ??

The IS is my most-played tank. It is just too easy to turn tail if something goes wrong in a battle. The 122mm is not a bad gun for sniping, either- I have a 68% hit ratio with it. It can penetrate the Lowe and KT pretty reliably from the front if it aims for the lower glacis on both (or the stock turret on the KT). It definitely needs the 1944 hull, though.

I'm playing with the IS right now and i gotta say.... Upgrading past the 100mm gun to the 122mm D25T isn't really worth it.... You end up with a gun that has a damge/minute of 2168 which is about 18% better than the 100mm. However, the accuracy and aiming time take a big big hit, and the cost per shell is a lot higher.

The alpha damage makes up for it, and you don't want to spend any longer than you have to in the IS-3 with either the D-25T or the 100.

I just upgraded from the KV-3 and I love this tank. Yes, the armor is not as good, but I am happy to trade the mobility for it. I have success when I am using it as intended, maneuvering and popping as the true heavies engage. My W/L record is horrible because I had the worst losing streak of my career yesterday, but that wasn't my fault. I swear!
I had a funny instance yesterday in Lakeside with myself, 2 Shermans, and Arty defending the valley. Red Team was not pushing up the valley, and the middle road was wide open with a SU-100 (I think) coming that wasy, closing in on arty. I backed out, went to the road, and took him out. Meanwhile, a Tiger crushes the 2 Shermans and moves to cap.
The rest of our group has swept the town and is moving to cap. I'm now turned around behind the dividing rock, waiting for Tigger to move into the circle. He does, and the 122 at close range pops him good. He backs up, out of my range. He basically surrendered.
The Sherman driver is going berzerk in chat. Maneuvering to save arty apparently makes me a wussy and a coward. As the capture bar approaches 100% for our team, he's shouting "Finish the Tiger! IS is a wussy!" (I'm cleaning up the language here).
Can someone plese tell me why I should risk moving in front of an 88 and getting killed when the game is won? The points of this story are: 1)Being mobile is good 2)Winning is what counts 3)Some players are just idiots. This ain't Black Ops.

what's alpha damge?
for example take the derp 152mm on the KV, that is a high alpha damage gun. Compare and contrast this with guns that have a high rate of fire, but low damage. In the end they might have the same damage per second, but if you can take out the enemy with that first alpha strike, it doesn't matter.
High alpha is king when your peak-a-booing in close combat, out in a open field ROF wins. Russian tanks tend towards high alpha/low accuracy while German guns tend towards high ROF/high accuracy, US somewhere in the middle.
This is of course a generalization.

ih had several matches where players are rageing because your tying to play it smart and the game had practicly been lost. as for the 100mm and 122mm thing some one posted about not being worth it, i do have to disagree with that person, yes the 100mm is WAY more forgiveing to the play compaired to the 122mm, the point is the 100mm is more suited for medium tanks like the t-44 (or what ever ther t7 med tanks..idr atm) where as the 122mm is basicly the Heavy gun your going to be stuck with untill teir 9 and 10 when you get the 130mm, so in essiance the first 122mm canon is to get the player to adjust to being more conservitive with their shots and more accurate when they do fire, and it also helps teach players how play work with heavy tanks if their tradeing iver from the medium line instead of playing through the KV heavys (and just a moment of rage KV derp and 107 have no place being on a teir 5 tank, low teir matches those guns can literly carry the match, wouldnt be so bad on a teir 7 tank how ever)any way all the characaristics of the last to guns on the IS entire purpous is help players adjust to the hard hitting slow fireing gun atributes of the fallowing heavy tanks, one more thing soviet guns arnt all horridly inaccurate one you learn how to use them, if you dont beleive me try finding my tank stats and see witch tanks i have the most snipers in (keep in mind most shots where inbetween 200-500m range and w/o binoculers or opticts)

D-25T is not necessarily the best option for IS. Depending on playstyle, the 100 mm gun is actually the better option.
Accuracy, ROF and DPS are much better for the 100 mm. It is also longer, and as such, can defeat slopes and make up for poor attack angles better.
My stats as they are now with IS are with the 100 mm gun. I have played no more than a dozen games with D-25T since I already used it thoroughly in beta and was already aware of its limits.
D2-5T as much as the 85 mm guns are a handicap for this tank. However, to use the better (above mentioned) guns, you need to research the tracks first.

Had an IS for a couple of days,It took a bit of getting used to after the KV3 ,the 100mm was a bit crap after the 122mm on the KV3 but now I've got the turret and running the 122mm (1st one)I'm really liking it ,I hit a kV at 471m today,as long as you take your time it's accuracy is ok,

well in comparison the T29 is very good, its gun has higher penetration than either of the Is-1 guns, and because of its damage, it gets better damage-per-credit as well. The T29 has better hull and especially turret. It does have the weakness of its easy to hit turret, fairly slow, and a long grind to get the 105mm.
the Tiger is weaker than the IS(warning for anyone going to the e-100). Its gun has higher penetration, but its also bigger, less armored, and its gun does about the same damage as the 100mm, for higher costs(making the whole tiger a huge cost, fairly weak vehicle). it does have higher penetration and accuracy.
the Tiger P has some of the weaknesses of the Tiger, but is much tougher, too bad it doesnt lead to the tiger 2=E-75=E-100.
The IS isnt that tough and its guns have low penetration for its tier. This is a major problem on the 122mms as 1000 credits bounces are bad, and this happens alot more than the Tigers or T29. Its speed is its greatest strength.
------------------------------
The IS isnt something I would recommend, and in fact its taught me. now I focus on the penetration, ammo costs, and module costs of weapons, how much armor, and whether or not it makes money.
the speed of the IS is its main stat. For me, penetration, accuracy and armor are more important.

I've just got the IS and run a few battles, some went well (generally when I've been near the top of the list) and some went bad (mainly when I've fought IS-4, E-75 & similar).
I've got the upgrade turret now and I'm still using the 100mm.
Now I'm looking at the next upgrade that I want to do and thinking that there is about 56.5k worth of exp for everything except the upgrade 85mm gun, or I could ignore the lot and go for the 80.5k exp option and make my next upgrade the IS-3. I'm leaning towards heading straight for the IS-3, what do you guys think of that idea?
