Odd that its prediction of a near miss coincides with the effective date global agencies and other groups promoting some catastrophe in 2030 and are warning us about but won't actually give a definitive reason other than severe 'climate change' will kill us off. Well a 340m rock which is roughly four football fields in diameter hitting the planet at 2.7 miles per second will make a massive crater but most importantly kick up enough debris to change the climate with a nuclear winter effect. A football field size rock is estimated to destroy an entire city and radiate an 8.0 quake out to 1000 miles away with climate changing debris so one four times as large would be near an extinction level event as far as fragile land life would be concerned. It could be even worse if say it bulls eyes a major fault line or yellowstone itself which would most likely trigger an eruption which would certainly seal the deal on everyone dying. An ocean hit would be something similar to the 2012 movie on coastal regions but the real damage would be the salt rains it would produce as trillions of gallons of seawater is vaporized and seeded around the planet by the jet streams.

Last year the SyFy channel aired a pilot about a generation ship on a 100 year trip to a new world to be colonized. That show brought up something I'd never thought about but could be an issue in real life. The people who first set out on the voyage volunteered so no problem there and their grandchildren will be alive to colonize the new world so no problem there either The problem is with the middle generation who did not volunteer, who will not live long enough to see the new world and who are not allowed to have self-determination.  Also, in order for a generation ship to succeed, it would have to be very authoritarian or totalitarian which would translate to the new world when they arrive. To be fair, no child gets to choose the circumstance of their birth.  Whether it's the children of the hunter gathering tribes that crossed a land bridge from Asia to North America, or the kids of folks on the Mayflower - the kids get to listen to how much better things were in the old country.

But for the kids themselves - the ship or 'new land' is all they know.  It's 'home'. 

. 

So I would not worry too much about the middle generation kids.
