I thought the hellcat and chaffee had substantially the same chassis.

That is very possible but Hunnicutt doesn't specify

Nope. They are 100% not the same vehicle.

Nope, Chaffee is shorter & wider, it also uses a different engine. Although both have 5 road wheels & torsion bar suspension.

Which is what I was referencing, they were developed at similar times and could have had compatible equipment

But yes, it's very obvious they aren't derivatives the way the Sherman family is

Yes

Does anyone have pictures of this M40 GMC with the L7 on it? Because this is a thing I would love to see become a thing... more L7s in the game would only be good. That gun is amazing.

We don't. IIRC it was a maintenance or inventory report or some such document listing it to confirm it's existence

EDIT - Apparently my memory is really bad, turns out it was Listy and CaptainNemo who dug up the info from DTIC, and apparently CaptainNemo also found later tests to mount the 20 pounder and 90mm M36 on an M40

As I recall, the M40 was a firing mule, with no combat capability. I.e. It was just intended to mount the gun to get it around the range, and shoot it a bit.

Didn't stop the FV4202 from being added.

You would think so since one is a Cadillac and the other is a Buick.  General Motors always loved taking the same basic car and marketing it under different names based on how many extra features it had.  However, in this case they really were two totally different chassis.

Taiwanese M41 with 90 mm gun please

That would be put in the Chinese line, not that that's a bad thing.  A prem Chinese TD.

They did it already make a Chaffee-based TD: http://forum.worldoftanks.com/index.php?/topic/391257-m19a2-75mm-automatic/page__hl__%2Bskysweeper__fromsearch__1

It had serious problems, if WG modeled it correctly, it would have an aim time like artillery.

They could put it on the Lee chassis, 75mm/L60 10-shot clip Skysweeper https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M51_Skysweeper

That might be an interesting addition to an existing hull as a prem Tank Destroyer.

They could strip off the top turret, extra gunner and loader in the M3 Lee and mount that sideways in the sponson.  Call it the Johnston (from Gen. Joseph E. Johnston).

Or how about the M42 Duster as a TD? Two 40mm Bofors Autoloaders sounds like a ton of fun at lower tiers!!

More like a prem Tier 6 LT on the american tree, like the Type 64 on the Chinese one. After all, both use the same chassis, the difference being the Type 64 with a more accurate gun, the Duster having burst damage balanced by a long reload.

I'd totally buy that! It'd be like a knife fighting Chaffee... Strongholds and Tourneys with it would rock!!

Soooo now we need AA trees? Really?an M42 Duster... Really

Bad enough when they added the "Toaster"  to the German TD line which was not a TD but an AA platform for the 88. Never intended to be fired with the sides up.

So Whats next Whirblwind, Ostwind demands?

The Toaster gets in because it had some design relations to the rest of the Waffentraeger project, though this is primarily summed up in game by giving the Panzer IV WT it's engine tech

And all of a sudden I'm sad... though... I mean it could have combat capability... it wouldnt be much different than something like the M56 or something in the way that they both basically just guns on top of tracks with little to no armor...
