Hello all,

Backstory and Greetings- Skip if you want to see the current information

Spoiler

Was doing some research on the Renault FT and I stumbled on this image.

25mmAT.jpg

It appears to be a FT with the 25 mm Raccourci, seen here:

canon-de-25mm-hotchkiss.jpg

Now this really confused me, as the Renault FT we all know was only able to mount the Hotchkiss 7.9 mm and the Puteaux AS19 37 mm. This image originates from this magazine:

gbm_n710.jpg

Now I can understand some French, so I think this was a design to improve the firepower of the Renault FT, as this gun is an anti-tank gun. This magazine has a special section on "attempts on rearming tanks"
ROUGH TRANSLATION: Fate thwarts the tanks of the future in the time of rearmament

So I was wondering if there is any other information on the Renault FT mounting a 25 mm? I can't find any other information on it.

I like the Renault FT and its variants as well! I wouldn't know anything about it mounting a 25 mm gun IRL, but do let me know if you find out!

Most of the information available online comes from that magazine. The FT with 25 mm gun was a 1933 project to rearm the existing FTs to make them into "mobile turrets". This project would resurface 6 years later, as what in this game is called the FT AC

If you can link me to any reading material on the FT AC that would be sweet

Isn't that the magazine that managed to stuff all the best qualities of each Panther variant (including the fictional ones) into one tank and then "prove" that it was better than an IS-3?

I did some research, and it doesn't appear to be.

Right, that was a different magazine... man, I wish there were as many English language armour magazines.

The French magazine that claimed the Panther was better than the IS-3 is I believe the same one that claimed the Italian P.26/40 was better than an M4 Sherman, and listed the E-79, E-90, and I believe the Krokodil, as being real vehicles.

I wouldn't trust Tank Encyclopedia to begin with. It's still claiming that the Americans had M36 tank destroyers in the Lorraine battles to excuse the simpler reality that the Russland Kaempher-led Panzer Brigades simply got trounced by 75mm-armed Shermans supported by 76mm M10s in its Panther article.

Yeah, that's one sketchy website. I wonder if the owner will be happy to know that the T-34 article (especially the images) is a running gag in the Russian online military history community.

The gun itself is a neat little bit of kit that (last time I played) was not well represented in game.

Thanks for the info, we're always trying to improve our articles.

By the way, any links on that comment @Ensign? TE is not sketchy at all.

Ummm...you do know that the FT DOES already have the 25mm Raccourci Mle. 1934 in it's gun inventory, right? That gun is totally unnecessary in the FT, though. With tanks in the tier only having 90-130 health, the 13.2mm Hotchkiss kills enemies quicker than the 25. The pen comes in handy when you are unlucky enough to draw a tier II battle, since some of the tanks there can resist the 13.2mm gun, at least in some places, but for the most part you're still better off with it if you're in the FT. Where the 25mm does come into it's own, though, is in the tier II French tanks that can mount it, especially the Hotchkiss H35. The H35 is an absolute monster in it's tier with that gun.
