About 18 months ago a few friends of mine from the early days of Red Orchestra realism started up a new unit for RO and the Darkest Hour mod, the 11.Pz Div (known as the Gespenster-Division, or Ghost Division). The 11.Pz saw action on both fronts throughout the war. While the unit only lasted about 6 months (due in large part to the rest of the DH realism community screwing us around and RO realism not being as lively as it once was), I had plenty of fun as a Panther crewman during that time. We had four Panthers and an assault pioneer detachment, each tank having its own number and its crew having choice of name and camo pattern (although we never got custom skins implemented in time). I shared Nr.243 with a longtime friend of mine, who christened it "Erlkönig" after the harbinger of death in old German folk tales and songs. Sick of the endless sea of Panzer grey and hoping to have a Panther quite soon, I started work on my first custom skin for WoT:

I don't quite have my own Panther yet (~200,000 credits from buying my 3002), so it took me about two days to find one that hadn't been upgraded so I could get a damn picture of it. Worth the wait though.

I've done a lot of skin tweaking and custom skins in the past for a whole array of games, but is my first for quite some time. I've still got a lot of work to do - camouflage the Schmallturm so that upgraded Panthers don't look silly with half camouflaged and half not - as well as add things like the 11.Pz Div. tactical symbol and emblem, a ghost-looking fellow with a dagger. I'm also going to play around with some of the finer details, like the hue/sat of the camo and the positioning of the number and crosses. I would add Zimmerit as well, but that would take a bit too long, I think :P

Once it's done I might upload a version with Erlkönig's markings and another without, so you guys can add your own but keep the camo (probably my favourite of the German tank patterns).

Added a few kill bands near the brake and tweaked a few other things, plus the 11Pz tactical symbol on the rear turret hatch. More pictures when I find a willing default Panther. :|

Anyone got a Panther (without any visible upgrades, so still with the Ausf. G turret and KwK42 L/70) and willing to get some better pictures?

I haven't skinned the Schmallturm yet nor some of the gun barrels, so the skin will only work properly using the Ausf. G turret and the KwK42. I will skin those parts eventually, but my main priority is to get it finished for the default Panther. I'll upload the file some time within the next few days so those with a suitable tank can try it out and hopefully post some better screenshots, as well as point out any problems they encounter that I may have missed.

Nice work, colours are very accurate.
My 2 cents : maybe you should add some more "dots" on the camouflage stripes ,to reflect really the Ambush pattern ,which is your goal, isnt it?

Wow, it looks absolutely astonishing!  Cant wait for the finished camo, with schmallturm and upgraded barrels covered.  :Smile_great:

Throw me a download link and I'll post some screens later on if you like.

I should make skins that are full white with a number of each facing giving the armor value.

But nice work OP, looks sweet.

Played with the contrast and hue/sat to get a closer match to the actual colours. There's still a visible UV seam on the gun barrel I need to fix. Later I'll add more speckles to the pattern, but for now I'm focusing on getting the major stuff right as well as finalising the placement of the various markings.

I also redid the turret number to look more hand-painted and added the 11Pz. Div. insignia, a ghost, to each side of the turret.

Ingame, Prohorovka:

Cant wait for the final release. :)

btw: You really need to finish the schmallturm and both 88mms. You wont use the Ausf.G turret for very long. Even tho it turns a lot faster, and looks a lot better than a schmallturm, its useless in this game. Shame because the 75mm L/70 panther gun owned the fuck out of everything during ww2. :(

Opened Fraps up to get some higher-quality snaps.

Links as they're quite big and the attachment function doesn't like me:

Now I have my Panther, I can work on it a lot more accurately.
