Historical Data on the New Rank Insignia (British ONLY):

---------------------------------------------------

Uniform Types:

Dress Uniform - For Special Occasions and Parades in front of the Monarch. Consisted of mostly brass rank insignia for Officers and a combination of woven cotton and brass for NCOs and enlisted men.

Battle Dress (also called Battledress) - The Standardized Regulation Uniform during WWII thru 1960. Since the UK's resources were limited, Battledress used cotton woven or plastic rank insignia instead of using metal which was crucial to the war effort and could not be spared except for medals and prestigious Division insignia.

~~~
Divisional Colors for the Armored Corps::
Battle Dress:
For Tank Division Insignia, Most Ranks Above WO (Warrant Officer) Class 1 had yellow piping or a yellow background on the ranking pips in Battle dress uniforms.
The only exception to this rule appeared on the ranks "Major" and Above as they are considered general staff officers by the British Armed Forces,
therefore the backgrounds of these ranks used a combination of red and black.
Dress Uniform:
Dress Uniforms are quite different than the battle dress counterparts. They had no Yellow Piping or yellow backgrounds; Instead they
had either a metal tank forces pin attached to the lapels of the uniform OR a Divisional Insignia for the Royal Tank Regiment on the breast pocket of said uniform.
~~~

Company Title Patch Insignia for Armored Corps:

General Information:
Company Title Patches identified what company or division the soldier was assigned to. Although few examples exist for the tank corps (that are exclusively tank divisions),
there are two that are very special in the history of the British tank forces. These are:

Royal Armored Corps:
Characterized by the Shoulder Patch in Yellow Showing the Name "Royal Armored Corps," It was the standard Identification for the majority of Tank Forces that had no Infantry Support attachments.

Royal Tank Regiment:
Characterized by a Beret Insignia, a breast-pocket insignia of a Mark I tank (WWI Landship) and also an "RTR" Brass Shoulder Patch; These are an elite group of tank soldiers that still serve today as one of the oldest formed tank regiments (formed 1918).

Historical Information for the German Tank Decals:

---------------------------------------------------------------

General Description:
This contains decal indentifications for German vehicles from the Versailles rearmament of the interwar period (starting 1935) to the defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945.

The Following Types of insignia are:
Standardized - Used on most tanks and vehicles with a single base coat color (either Feldgrau or Feldbräunen). Exceptions are rare.
Camo - These were special variants for tanks that were given camo paint. Some were even used exclusively with camo for Tank Aces.

Interwar Period (1935-1939):
In the Interwar period, when Nazi Germany was getting prepared for war, The German Military was rearming as an act of defiance towards the Treaty of Versailles.
Despite the excessive military budget on the rearmament project, German insignia for armored vehicles were rather simplistic and used indentifier designs that were carried
over from their A7V tanks of World War I.These were most frequently used on the Panzer I and Panzer II tanks, however other examples show these symbols being used on the
Panzer III while in Erwin Rommel's Afrikakorps Unit.... Contains two decals of Standardized and Camo versions.

Early War Period (1940-1941):
During the Early Sucesses in the Eastern front, Western front and during the DAK campaign. The Germans changed their tank insignia to a more modern version that was roughly
based off of the cross from the Imperial War Ensign. As camoflagued tanks were easier to see with the standard cross identifier, the Heer (Army) Department developed camo
versions that were harder to spot. The first tested version of the camo indentifier was to make the black part of the cross thinner while using varying shades of white paint
to make it blend in with the camo of the tank. Later a cross outline version was developed that also had variant shades of white paint. These camo decals would later be used
more frequently and more elaborate versions would be used for the Elite SS Panzer Divisions such as Das Reich and Liebstandarte "Adolf Hitler"..... Contains two Camo and
one Standardized version.

Mid War Period (1942-1943):
When the tide started turning for the Germans on the Eastern Front, It became clear that guerilla tactics would become more viable as Germany started to go on the defensive
after their defeat at Stalingrad. Thus, in addition to stadardized versions of the insignia, new camoflague indentifiers were developed by the War Department. Learning from
the sucesses of the outline design the Germans tried to perfect it by changing the color to black while varying the shades to match the camo that was applied.
Also they tried using vairants of the original interwar period white cross design, but instead using black shades instead of white.... Contains two decals of
Standardized and Camo versions.

Late War Period (1944-1945):
In the last years of the war, Germany was on the defensive on both fronts. With the Allied invasion of Normandy still fresh, The Germans changed their decals yet again.
With most of the standard Panzer Divisions either knocked out by allied tanks or unable to move due to a petrol shortage, It was up to the most experienced
SS Panzer Divisions to try to turn the tide during the Battle of the Buldge. As such, most tanks were given camo paint, zimmerit (anti magnetic mine paste), and the most
elaborate of the camo decals. With all of the insignia, being two tone colors and by varying the shades of both colors, the insignia became much harder to identify by both
allied and axis units from the air. Unfortunately for the Germans, allied airmen were trained to identify by the tank instead of by insignia
(although some were captured by the allies and used in their respective armies). The Germans quickly learned that without tree cover they could never truly blend in.
Although in the confusion of some of the final battles against the Germans, some of the captured tanks were accidentally destroyed by allied air raids in friendly fire
incidents... Contains three Camo decals and two Standardized Decals.

I'd suggest posting some screenshot examples of the mod so everyone can get a look at it before downloading it.

Thanks! so the 9.9 folder and the Alternate go into the Res_mods folder like the README file states, correct?

Also, will this affect other mods installed?

Sorry about all the questions, i'm just anxious to try this out.

Just the 0.9.9 folder will go into res mods. If you want an alternate version go into the alternate versions folder (it is structured exactly like the res_mods 9.9 folder). If you go all the way into the path where the files are kept there will be "instructions to change.txt" for each folder containing files. Open it and you will have instructions to change the files. Also there is a backup of the files that come default so that if you want to revert the changes at any time, you can do so easily. The Alternate Versions folder as stated above is structured for convenient replacement of files. Please let me know if you have further questions. :teethhappy:

I appreciate the help. Works like a champ! love the new look! Thanks!

Btw- when 9.10 comes out, do we just change the 9.9 folder to 9.10 or do we need to change something other than the name? Just want to make sure this sticks around! :)

Just change 9.9 to 9.10. (the visual part is 9.10 ready but when the GOX Auto Fire Extinguisher, 30X zoom scope mod, and Battle Assistant ALT Artillery Mode has been updated I will update the mod to 9.10 officially) The non-visual part of the mod will be in a separate folder so that the initial mod release will work with the new version when the other mods are being updated by their creators. Also feel free to mirror this on Curse, just in case my Dropbox goes offline.

Awesome mod, nice work! Trying to reinstall this mod, switching the Chinese star to the historical blue/white sun but can't get it to appear. In game it just shows a yellow box with "Problem?".

I double-checked the path. Res Mods: 9:15: Gui: Maps: Vehicles: Decals

I did not have this error at all until today when 9.15 was released. Any insight you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

This is a texture issue pertaining to the format of the file itself. In 9.15 and beyond, all of the decal related files are saved in DXT5 saving format while saving in dds file format. As Nishizumi77_NA explained in my private message to her on this issue, this is the format that World of Tanks uses now:

DXT1 format was the old format. I am currently trying to convert them to DXT5, However I am having difficulty with that conversion.

EDIT: In Paint.net I had to generate a mipmap using any presets to get them to work with the DXT5 format.
