Pershing vs. T44

Last night I had the opportunity to drive a friends Pershing, while I had blast it brings to question are these two tanks really on par with each other? So I wanted to write a quick review of these two tanks. I am excluding the Panther because it has a much different play style (1/2 Med 1/2 TD). Keep in mind I am relatively new to WoT, with a fair amount of battles.
T44 - A great medium tank, with its speed and accel this tank really defines a medium tank role in WoT (IMO). On the downside, wet amo rack is needed, and has a very mediocre tier 8 gun with little to no effective gun depression. High point is getting in and out of the correct situations.
Pershing - A great medium tank, great gun, very fast aiming, and great gun depression (which is very underrated imo) High point is taking more advantage of good situations compared to the T44
These two tanks are as close to even as we can get, with the difference between the two being minor role discrepancies, little bit of speed trade off for aim/depression.
I would highly recommend these two tanks to anyone wanting to try mediums both lines have their ups and downs but overall a blast to play.
T44 Pershing Traverse 9 7 Speed 9 7 Acceleration 9 7.5 Gun 7 9 Aiming(Overall) 7 9 Depression 5 9 Armour 9 7

I personally think the Pershing is just a better machine. When i see a T-44 in my M26 i told my ground and....yeah...his toast.

Pershing makes the previous T7 heavies silly, and can even take on an IS-3, Lowe, KV-5 or T32 successfully. KT's are another matter though.

A pershing will give a t-44 a run for its money
the american tank is consistently harder hitting than its russian counterpart
I (T-44 driver) personally will not engage a pershing unless i have support from other mediums behind me
otherwise I either take too much damage for the kill to be worth it or even die sparring with it

I rarely see a T-44 lose to a Pershing in a stand up fight - the Pershing has the better gun, but the T-44 is still going to bounce more shots than vice versa.
The only way for a Pershing to really get the job done is by sniping while someone else spots.

I rarely have a "stand up" fight against pershings with my 44. Usually there is a bump or rocks or w/e between us and all I can do is bounce on his turret. I'd say 44 is still better at ganking lone heavies, but pershing is better all-around.

How are you bouncing on the turret? The turret of my Pershing is penetrated at least 50% of the time by various German vehicles toting the awful 8.8cm L/56 gun

The turret has 114mm of sloped armor. Aiming from the front, anything less than a perfect shot at the mantlet would probably bounce. The T44 is also low, so there is already an angle just by aiming up at it. If he backs off at just the right moment, its very easy to bounce wildly.
And I would imagine the mantlet has more than 114 given how thick it is.
The T44 is just at a height disadvantage t vs the pershing. Whereas the pershing will aim down and negate alot of the sloped front armor, the T44 has to aim up and shoot at even more of an angle than the pershing's already angled armor.

The 180mm pen on the Pershing's top gun makes it much more likely to penetrate the T44 than the 90mm M3 does
It has much faster aiming time/accuracy so the Patton will nearly always get first shot, also has better reload and damage and more HP
the inacuracy of the t44's gun means its likely that the gun will glance off the Pattons armor at and awkward angle

The mantlet on a Pershing is easy to penetrate, however penetrating the 102mm of turret armor behind it is another thing. 114+102=216mm effective. Anyone who's played the Pershing enough to know the sound of you getting penned but nothing happens to you, they just shot through your mantlet but stopped on the turret.

Yeah, i've notice the odd deflect on the turret. I even made a Lowe rage at me...good times.

I ate a S-70 shot to the face once, made me lol, made the IS-4 rage hardcore. I need to record my games more.

I have also noticed the sound of penetration but when I look at my HP I swear it hasn't dropped. I didn't know that was possible.

Never driven a Pershing but i have had a couple battles in a T44 and from my experience whilst Pershing's hit hard, the majority of the time i was able to take them out with my T44 1 v 1

That actually explains a lot from both sides. I've gotten steel wall in my Pershing but have no idea how it was possible and I've bounced shots firing at it that should have had no problem penetrating (T34 120mm, Lowe, 198pen 105mm)

Gotta love those mystery numbers when it comes to armor. It is just fun how some numbers are listed, but others are not. Go figure.

Pershing is the top tier 8 tank (today but when German meds will revice its German counter-part the Panther II IDK if its still be the best) I got top gun, steel wall, sniper and Wittmanns medal all in one battle I feel better when in the Pershing than my T23 sure the T23 is fast but its gun makes it under par with its counter-part with the Persing I feel a superb tank to go with than T-44 and Panther
