Good day to all WOT players!
Welcome to the Tiger 2 (AKA King Tiger, Royal Tiger, Tiger ausf B, VK 4502 (H) a Tier 8 heavy tank from the German Tech Tree.  With its fearsome 105mm L68 this tank can finally engage Tier 10 heavies and expect to at least damage them head-on.

Previous tank: Tiger 1{H}

Next tank: E-75

Stock tank specs:
http://img600.images...366/unledct.jpg
Upgrade tree:
http://img829.images...4/techtreek.jpg

Overview:
The King Tiger starts off with the 88L71 (AKA long 88, a KT’s historical gun) which is actually the best stock heavy tank cannon at tier 8.  It’s cheap, penetrates a lot and is accurate. It also fires pretty damn fast. The KT is very slow stock (first engine) and not really all that maneuverable, but if you have researched the best engine on the tiger, you can put it now and see that it makes a huge difference.
Price:2 392 000
Camouflage: This brick is sexy, therefore very easy to spot.

Pros:
-Good looking (like me)
-Accurate
-Best stock T8 heavy
-Very tough frontal armor
-Pivot turn ability!

Cons:
-Big target
-Expensive
-Weak side and rear armor

Designation:
1. Warrior Posted Image 2. Sniper Posted Image 3. Steel Wall Posted Image

Crew:
1. Commander Posted Image
2. Gunner  Posted Image
3. Driver  Posted Image
4. Radio Operator   Posted Image
5. Loader      Posted Image

Use your Tiger 1 crew .
I suggest you specialize your crew this way:
1. Repair Posted Image
2. Firefighting Posted Image
3. Camouflage Posted Image

KT is prone to fires and module damage. Many times I get lit on fire AFTER I put it out with the extinguisher. Camouflage is bad, your crew cant compensate it that much so leave it as last, hell even camo + camouflage net wont save your sexy ass.

Modules:
Armor scheme currently in use
Spoiler
*The turret front is now 185, mantlet in impenetrable.

Hull:
The frontal armour is 150mm, but huge slope increases it greatly. Most tier 6,7 and even some tier 8 guns(88L71 included) will have problems going through this part of the tank. Weak spot is the lower hull armor, its only 120mm and even with the slope its not enough to stop the more powerful guns. Do know that you should slope yourself in order to increase the armor. Even the mighty BL-9 can bounce when using this tactic.

Suspension:
1. Standartketten (stock) / Max.capacity 68.5 / Turn speed 23 degrees per sec.
2. Verstartke ketten/ Max.capacity 72.97 / Turn speed 26 deg per sec.
Unlike the IS-3, the suspension is the first thing you need to get!

Engine:
Maybach HL 210 P 30- 650 h.p.– 20% chance for fire on impact
Maybach HL 230 P 45– 750 h.p.– 20% chance for fire on impact
Maybach HL 234 P 45- 870 h.p.- 20% chance for fire on impact
That's one looong research path, but its worth it as the best engine gives the KT of around 12 h.p. per ton. Lets not even mention the fact these engines are also used on the JagdTiger and Panther, and will help you in the long run of unlocking the entire German tree

Radio:
FUG 7– range 470m
FUG 12– range 810mm
Surprisingly, getting a better radio soon is advisable this time. 470mm is just not enough sometimes.

Turrets:
1. Porsche-turm (stock)
Armor 100/80/80
Rotation 34 deg / sec.
Review of 460 meters.
2. Henschel-turm
Book 185/80/80
Rotate 28 deg / sec.
Review of 460 meters.

I suggest getting the better turret ASAP. Its much better armored and gives you a RoF increase. The impenetrable mantlet (that also takes 1/3 of the turret front) can be combined with turret sloping after each shot in order to bounce the enemies's counter. Do keep in mind the commander's cupola is a weak spot that can be exploited in CQC by the enemy.

Guns:
88mm L71
http://img219.images.../8830/gun1r.jpg
This gun is a beauty, it has no problems penetrating IS-3 and T32. Its accurate and cheap, and i would not be surprised if some people are using it, as it allows the user to actually make money (if he is good enough) even without premium. Hell, if you can aim well, this gun can penetrate even the mighty IS-4 heavy tank.
105mm L52
http://img585.images.../4313/gun2k.jpg
Its debatable whether this is an actual upgrade, as you lose 3mm of penetration and some accuracy for 100 more damage. Its also very expensive with its ammo costing 1030 a shot. It does fire somewhat fast though  :Smile_great:
105mm L68
http://img696.images...6/1687/gun3.jpg
The damage and cost is the same as the other 105mm gun, BUT you get 25 more penetration and is just as accurate as the 88L71. When confronted by something heavy like a MAUS, for example, load HE rounds or shoot its weak spots with AP. This REALLY is an upgrade, but its very expensive to use at 1030 cred/shot. Do research it at ALL costs, as it will make the E-75 grind much better.

Proposed upgrade path:
1. Suspension
2. Turret
3. Engine
4. 105L52 (can also be number 3)
5. 105L68 (can also be number 4)
6. Engine (best)
*Note, i hope you have already researched the engines on the Tiger 1, because this will really shorten the grind.

Comparison with its peers:
IS-3 vs Panzer VI Tiger ausf B
An extemely tough comparison for both tanks. The Tiger 2 has a gun with EPIC accuracy and aim time, his frontal hull armor is far superior to IS-3s. IS-3 does more damage per shot and has better side and turret armor but less health. Both have the same 225 penetration (awesome!)
In short:
IS-3 is better vs smaller tanks than KT, thanks to its all around armor.
Tiger can bounce Tier 10 guns more often than IS3 ( hull armor).
IS-3 is speedier, but KT has the long range death to it
1v1 they are as a whole well balanced.

Panzer VI ausf B vs T32
King Tiger has a superior hull, but the T32 has an invulnerable turret. Both are about the same agility-wise. King Tiger has the better gun in every stat, except RoF.
In short:
T32 is again better vs small tanks thanks to RoF
T32 can turret-hug Tier 10 tanks into submission
1v1 they are balanced, but as a whole KT is better thanks to 27 more penetration

Historical KT
http://statcdn.world...ii_1024_768.jpg
Mounts the 88L71 and can use both turrets. An absolute menace during WW2, it had no problems knocking out even the best allied tanks such as the IS-2 and Pershing. Only the IS-3 might have been a worthy opponent, and there are rumors that the two monsters met in Berlin, but nothing is sure.
The Tiger 2 is almost indestructible in historical battles, as no other tank can penetrate its armor. Only HE and side shots from IS tanks can kill it, but its never alone as PZ4s and Panthers will guard the Tiger and turn it into a kind of fortress.

A link with skins for those of you artistic types:
http://wotskins.word...z-vib-tiger-ii/

Tweaks to King Tiger and its peers I would like to see:
-T32 gets a gun with 220 penetration and the same stats except slightly better accuracy.
-KT gets its turret side armor fixed and gets a +10 damage boost to top gun + 232 penetration for it and slightly higher RoF.
-IS-3 gets +10 dmg to BL-9 and gets 5.20 RoF, gets speed decrease to 37 and 228 penetration.

Nice write up! It has been a while since I played, but I had one of these in the beta and the mantlet was actually the weak spot on the front of the turret. Did they fix that?

This tank is really powerful, fun, and good looking. Perfect combination

Sold it after the VK4502 grind cause I was short on money, and rebought it like a month ago. Definitely a keeper.

Nice review  :Smile_great:

torsion bar maybe necessary so you can get your turret and gun quicker.
But once get the track, I will change it to Vstab.

Is this written after the latest patch, where the Porsche turret received 100 more hit points?

Anyways, Great read, keep it up.

my uppgrades:

best engine.
tracks
then guns
last is turret....

But I might be wrong, and it perhaps is wiser to take turret before last gun (A crossroad I am at now).

Don't think it is necessary. KT grind is fun, and not that hard. Clearly one of the best tanks on the game.
I would save these 500K credits for something more useful, like Spall Liner or Rammer.

My favorite tank in beta and  still is. once the game went live it was the first tank I went for. I ground to two tier 9s with it both the ausfb and the E75 and never got bored of it. One of the best stock tanks in the game if not the best. When I want to grind some credits or just having a good time the KT is the best.

I love this tank, felt almost indestructible compared to the Tiger I.
As for the guns bit, I usually use the 88 to make money off it. In a good match I can get about 30k profit with it since the shells are so cheap!
I use the long 105 every now and then, mainly for daily double, as it deals more damage and so gets more exp per shot.
Definitely a formidable opponent, especially if the enemy don't know the weak spots. (I took 60 hits one match before I finally died lol)
Looking forward to the E75, I hear good things about it.

From historical perspective, tiger 2 was not indestructible at all. Although business end of tiger2 was deadly for any armored vehicle of that period, sides were readily penetrated by anti-tank artillery and even by t34/76 if they were close enough. Moreother when is 2 showed up on battlefields 122 mm he were very effective against tiger2. Unfortunatelly for the tiger 2 there were so few of them and design was plagued with reliability issues. Also 60 ton machine had hard times with muddy/snow terrain and bridge crossing.

Love the King Tiger.  Only issue is it is a credit gobbler in a standard membership.  Ex - A game I just finished:  I had 3 kills, got steel wall and sniper honors, 734 experience, and we won.  Earned 22K, repairs were 8K, and ammo was 11K.  Earned a grand total of 3K for the battle.  I haven't been able to afford a tank above a level VI for 2 weeks.  I finally broke down and bought a premium yesterday (a KV-5 which has earned me tons of credit, but a tank I cannot really be warm and fuzzy with).  The KT is still my favorite VIII and is fun in battle.

With the numbers you gave, you actually made 2k in profit. But sounds like this tank is worth the grind through the Tiger 1.

I'm enjoying the tank except for one problem I went and upgraded from the 45 L/52 to the 46 L/68 and accuracy at range is worse than before. According to the stats the 45 L/52 has an accuracy of .32 and the 46 L/68 has an accuracy of .3 but it hasn't improved. In fact it has gotten worse. Is there a bug that I'm not aware of? It should not be worse. My crew is continually getting better so that can't be the problem.

Probably just you. L68 is quite accurate. Tbh it just depends on game, i've had rounds where i missed 5 times in a row in JT

Ok. All you people are saying how insanely awesome the KT is, but I just can't seem to get the hang of it. Maybe it's because I've only gotten like 10 games with it, and it's mostly stock, but I can't seem to do anything with it. Each of my games usually ends with me being blown to bits without a single kill to my name and then I I've to pay the 12000 credit repair cost. I've lost a lot of money in this thing. I've also only won like 2 games in it.
So, does it get better with the turret? Failing that, anyone have any tips?

Every tank i used had a learning curve. Here is what worked for my other German tanks in situation similar to yours. Start with base defense and sniping using hard cover. That will help to understand new tank. When you'll start getting  stable number of kills/wins begin use more aggressive tactics but always have a cover nearby.
