Why so many love to play arty?

This is NOT discussion about number/OP'ness of arties in a match like "too many arties in team" or "arty is OP" and the likes. My question: Why do arty players love to play arty so much?
There are SOME players who feel that there are too many arties in SOME match. I guess that root cause of such overabundance of arty is that so many players love to play arty and play it frequently. No matter what devs change on matchmaker or MM policy, it is logically impossible to limit number of arties in a match as long as many players want to play arty in MM queue.
So I ask: Why so many players love to play arty instead of other vehicles?
Please stay away from discussion that arty is OP or not and too many arty or not. I am just casual mid-tier arty player.

I love to play arty because i like the fact that every tank on the enemy side, regardless of tier, is afraid of my little SU-26. Arty keeps heavy drivers from getting a swollen head! lol
On a more serious note, its just fun blowing shit up!

i started to really enjoy playing art because i could actually DO something at tier 4-5.. i would play my paner 4 and maybe hurt a lowe before he one shotted me.. or play my jadgpazer 4 and have the same experience.. but when i was in a grille and a hummel.. i could DO DAMAGE! and have a effect on the game.. Infact the 2 real life friends i introduced to the game i suggested that they play art exculsively until they learned the maps because
1)you stay alive long enough to learn the maps
2)you learn what artillery can and cant hit, so no random death from above, "i don't get it, what killed me" moments
3)you kinda learn the vision system when you camp in a bush near your base and the enemy comes.
4)you can DAMAGE the enemy, while in many many other tier 3-5 tanks, you can't do crap against many to most to ALL of the enemy tanks in a standar battle.
5)you earn good money, the hummel is still the most overpowered tank i have ever played the KV-1s and now the IS are the only things close to the hummel.. barring a Kv in a tier 4-5 game.

It's a great money making tank in the mid-teirs for people who don't run premium tanks. The main reason there are so many of them right now is a combination of tracers being removed and people pushing to get tier 8; which means artillery is more or less safe the entire game until the enemy pushes into the base because it's now impossible for artillery to track each others' tracers and blind shot to counter-battery.

I kinda liked arty play when tracers where still in because it needed more brains to play well than tanks. From setting up correctly to best support the team, timing a shell with 4-5 seconds flight time to hit a moving medium, moving immediately after the shot to evade enemy counter arty while taking care not to break a tree or similar and at the same time looking out for enemy arty's location as it tries to get you, taking out the enemy arty after figuring out it's movement pattern, watching out for enemy tanks breaking fences or trees and blind shotting them, raging about your shots going anywhere but in the target circle, etc. etc.; there was always something to do, while in a heavy tank your biggest problem is the rock you are using as cover and the tank you are shooting at.
These days I only play arty in clan wars (except the occasional daily double on my tier 7 to get the crew back up), since without tracers to much of the game play went away and it's a bit boring now.

Yes i think alot of the reason i love my Object 212 is i can make a big diffrence in most games i play in. OFcourse i could make a diffrence on the IS-7 or IS-4 but i could also choose a flank alone and be destroyed having done nothing for the team. I also like the more laid back and calm playstyle , having such huge reload times means you have to realy take your time and choose the opertune momment to strike.
I think for myself personally i just find arty less frustrating in general ( accept when you have silly tier 9 meds who think there only job is to rush the arty at the start and die meaninglessly in the attempt). As a heavy there are soooo many fustrating aspects to the game. PLaying arty so much has taught me how best to avoid it generally and impoved my gameplay a great deal as a heavy but you still get unlucky from time to time when advancing. Nothing is more frustrating then just starting to move forward and the enemy arty gets a penetrating hit on you and kills you instantly.
In the end i play both arty and heavies/mediums and enjoy both. Arty does have it's own frustrating aspects to it like rounds where every single shot you fire no mater how accuratly just wont hit your target. And times where you are detected for no reason, theres none on your side of the map your sat behind cover with your hull locked but you get lit up withoght knowing and killed . Ofcourse the big annoyance is tottal dependence on your team in most cases which is a baaad tihng in such a random game.

Why do people love to play heavies so much?
Why do people love to play TD's so much?
Why do people love to play mediums so much?
The answer to those and your question is because they enjoy it.

I enjoy playing arty because one shot from you can change the entire tide of a battle. (no other tank can bring a maus down 50% in one shot)

There is NOWHERE near as much arty now as there was in beta. I get the occasional matches with multiple heavy arty per side but, for the most part, arty participation is reasonable. I get as many non-arty matches as matches with multiple artillery.

Sorry but you are wrong. I can't find a game these days without at least 7-8 arty in a match. I've seen as many as 24. The number of people playing arty is completely out of control right now and getting worse everyday. I really don't expect the Devs to change anything because apparently they all play arty. Right now I have stopped buying gold and won't until the game is fixed. Playing Tier 10's as it stands now is just an excercise in frustration.
p.s. these kinds of posts don't ever make it to the devs. They could care less about the NA server. Sorry but true.

I enjoy it for a few reasons...
1. As stated above, in the S-51 my decisions moment to moment make a difference in the game. In a heavy tank I am typically a role player. I follow the basic strategy which says 1. Make sure all the important avenues are covered and if so 2. Support the group needing my help the most. Anything happening on another part of the map I have very little control over.
2. The experience and credits are exceptional. I saw someone say yesterday they had plenty of experience, but were grinding silver. T5 SPGs take care of any issues with silver.
3. Playing Arty does take strategy (I have over 400 games in Arty and I still am learning). It is a different game altogether. You have to pay attention to what is going on over the entire map. You have to change locations based on what is happening, and have to do so before it is too late. You have to make decisions on when and what to shoot, and your bad decisions and misses cost the team as much as a solid hit gives the team momentum.
I love playing my other tanks as well. Even though I consider myself an average tank driver, I enjoy playing and I try to become better with each game. It is really all about having a good time and playing arty is part of the experience for me.

I like playing arty because it taught me how to avoid arty as a heavy or TD. It makes good credits. It can be fun but mostly I keep one arty all the time to mix it up. When I get bored with grinding a play a round or two in my SU-8 to mix it up, it's like a different game.

I enjoy the arty, though it can be an exercise in frustration with a less than 30% hit ratio. It gives a good overview of the maps, where and where not to go to avoid arty when running any of my tanks/TDs.

You are going to have to provide proof of a game with that many arty in it otherwise it is just hyperbole on your part.
The most I have ever seen on each side was 5 and that is rare, usually it is 1 - 3 per side.

Actually, since the recent patch, I've been seeing less arty to the point where there's no arty in one in every three or four games I play.
