Once you have maxed all research on a tank is it best than to graduate to another tank and sell the old one? Is there a any purpose to keep low tier maxed tanks?

Only if you enjoyed playing it.  Also, they earn 1.5x credits & experience, so they can make decent money makers as well.

do you have fun playing it? you can get your crew to 100% then max your crews secondary skills and farm credits. you can convert exp to free (w/gold) if that's you thing. If no then move on.

Gunning for fake tip of the week, are we?

You may have seen "accelerated crew training" (which is not a 1.5x exp bonus, see the wiki) and extrapolated that (incorrectly) to credits.  Elite tanks don't earn any more exp or creds.

Yeah, they become good crew trainers with the accelerated training option and if you love the tank, why not have some more fun in it?

You can also convert normal tank experience from an elite tank to free experience using gold. It's a popular option with premium tanks that have a multiplier on exp and credits.

that's the bonus for premium account, but if memory serves no, elite tank status does NOT get a bonus. you are just able to convert the banked xp to free at a gold cost.
or accelerate crew training to train tanks for new tanks faster.

EDIT: unless it was buried in the release notes for one of the last 2 patches

If you enjoy playing with other people, like in a platoon, then you will have a tank in each level and can play with the new people. I do this all the time. I have tanks from level 3 thru level 9 and enjoying playing them all.

Each day on your first victory your tank will earn double exp. So I play each of my tanks till I get a victory and get the double.

The 1.5x multiplier is only for a premium account, so there is no additional credit and experience bonus on elite tanks. You can use their xp to convert to free xp, or you can accelerate crew training.

I try not to sell good elite tanks because they're good at training crews and making xp that I can convert if I really want to spend the gold on it.

If you don't plan on getting a premium tank (Lowe for example), keep at least one tier 5 tank in your garage.

When you start grinding tier 6 and above, you will start noticing that the repair bills and ammo costs start increasing drastically. Once you get to tier 7, especially on a new, stock non-modified tank, you may get a negative credit bill, ie: you gained 10,000 credits in that battle you just lost, but your repairs and ammo cost you 15,000 credits.

Outside of a premium tank (Lowe / KV-5 are the two best earners), tier 5 tanks earn credits the fastest. I still have my Pz4 and Stug3 for fast, usually good match-up games where you can guarantee you'll make up to 10k credits for 5 or 10 minutes of playing.

And what someone else up there said: keep the tanks you like to play, I still have my Pz2 and Pz3 because after a while of getting bludgeoned by Tiger 2s, Lowes and IS-4s, it can be refreshing to get on the Pz2 and gallop all over a map at 40 kph (or 60kph in the Pz3). The Pz2 gets the best match-ups usually paired with tier 1s and other tier 2s. The only beasts in those match-ups are the premium 38(f) Hotchkiss mini-mauses.
