So is there going to be another open cup league?
and if so when?
And if so, perhaps the regulations from 2014 might need a wee tweaking on the page as they may no longer fit the new format

Too bad, they missed this one.
They could really have had something going in both tier 8 and in tier 10 Open Cups. They could have leveled the playing field for everyone and stop catering to the top teams.
For new clans and clans with small membership they could have set the clan WIN8 max and keep them in the tier 8 Open. This would give new and small clans a chance to try out the game against a similar skill level opponent.
For clans with a lot of members starting at the max WIN8 for the tier 8 series on up, they would be in the tier 10.
In my opinion this would grow the game for everyone

The small clans have an equal chance to play on an even field, If you want to play against a similar skill level thats essentially what the leagues are, with bronze being the lowest of the three. They dont cater to the top teams, those teams have earned there spot and give viable feedback instead of OMGARTYPLZNERFHAX
What he says is true though, it's not like WG caters to top teams in any way, shape, or form. If you want to break into the scene, make a team and scrim people, then try to get into the league. Bronze league has 27 teams, and no offense to the teams but the bottom end aren't exactly amazing. It's not like it's extremely difficult to get into the league if you are good at the game. Also, what you're saying about max wn8 and tier 8 and 10 open is pretty confusing. If you want to play tier 8's go play team battles. I think the system is perfectly fine how it is. Most teams before would do open season and stuff for all the free gold, then not actually care to play bronze league, cause it takes time. Open league wasn't a thing last season, and probably won't be a thing ever again
As Hitman says, people abused the Open League as a way for them to win gold by stomping on some of the lower quality teams. There are even some teams, and I won't name any here, who have competed in Bronze, done REALLY well only to decline the position higher up because they could just win more gold in a lower league. This is likely one of the biggest reasons Open was done away with.
As for the whole WN8 being any way associated with leagues, think again, because it never will. Sure most of the teams that do well, typically have higher WN8s, but this will never be something that Wargaming will go by. WN8 is technically not supported in the sense that they don't actually do anything with it. They work with places like WoTLabs and Noobmeter simply for tracking purposes for those sites. If they actually supported it, they would of brought that into the game instead of putting out "Personal Ratings" for people in game. Also, any rating limitations for League would only serve to kill it, rather then hinder it, not to mention this is not even based on clans participating but teams of 10. There is clan league, which is different from WGLNA, but still similar.
Now on to the thing about catering to top teams. How in the hell do you figure they cater to those players? Do you think there is some kind of favoritism shown because they are Gold League? Because you would be mistaken by assuming that. As Masked said, those teams have EARNED their spot. For example take eClipse. They won Silver, then went on to win Gold. Did they get handed their spot in anything? No, they earned it. They put in the time and effort to improve their play and they made it to the top of WGLNA.
Open wasn't worth the time and effort that the staff put into it. You want league time? Do the Bronze qualifiers. Lots of teams made it in last year, and lots of those teams were new and didn't have "top" players. By removing the Open Cup/League, they could focus in and now all leagues have proper battle accounts with all tier 10s unlocked+skills. This completely levels the playing field and lets the best players and tactics win. Open Cup would have never allowed those types of battle accounts, so it would continually be the players who could grind the tanks out beating everyone else.
Knock the chip off your shoulder, get a team together, practice and make it through the Bronze qualifiers. Don't sell yourselves short and think you need an "easy road" into Bronze league.

This is what we did last year, it was rushed, but we plan on entering again this year but I was not sure if WGLOC still existed or was defunct
