Players guide to the worst performing premium tank  IS6 needs more buffs before 88 gets any love.

"World of Tanks' most powerful Panther variant!"

I thought the Panther 2 was the most powerful Panther variant

vents, gun rammer, vertical stablizer

  • Keep your gun in play, and watch out for thin armor on your sides

none of which fixes the fact you have worse armor and mobility than the tier 7 panther.  so thin armor on sides?  and front. and turret.  w8 you have armor?! i call bull.

and worse gun depression than tier 7 and 8 panther.      without the armor of the tier 9 E50

oh sure you have a good gun, but its only 202 pen.  with 237 gold.     there are superior guns on heavies, or meds (CDC, Mutz, FCM50t,)

want to fix this crap heap?   easy. give it -7 frontal gun depression.  thats a good start.   and then, based on how it does, we can consider the armor being buffed to tier 7 levels.   yes...buffed to a tier lower than it....thats pathetic...even panther/m10 has superior armor...

you want the most powerful panther?  Panther 2.   sure it lacks the dpm and handling of p88.    but having -8 gun depression FRONTALLY and side.  in addition to an upper plate than can BOUNCE 175pen 122mm rounds(reliably)   makes a MAJOR difference.     add to that its armor and weight for ramming other mediums and lights, with -8 gun depression to SHOOT what it rams.

after all,  people who use 122mm guns tend not to be used to having to aim at medium tanks. they tend to just shoot to hit it and expect it to pen, they don't expect to have to aim for the lower plate......which considering panther 2 is the size of a tiger 2...is kinda sad(seriously you would not believe how many 122mm gun users shoot the upper plate of panther 2...)

I see no valid reason to buy the Panther 8,8

it trains 5 crew instead of 4, good if you have a panther line of crew you'd like to train up

Tip of the Day!

The best Guide for the 8.8 Panther is "NOT" to buy it because it is by far one of the "WORST" premium medium tanks on the game!!! Smile_trollface-3.gif

Russian premiums based off a tech tree tank? Not only tier equivalent but buffed over the elite tank it's based on with only a token nerf to engine power which is more than made up with better terrain resistance. German premium tank based off a tech tree tank? Buff the gun a bit but nerf the crap out of everything that made the elite tech tree tank it's based on usable so you end up with crap overall performance with a good gun. Thanks WG balance team! :honoring:

They did, except it uses the engine governor which made production standard years prior to the design

The real question is why they implemented it for this thing and not the Panther M-10

actually, while Super P can be good (provided it doesn't meet anything to armored for its joke of a gun,   or provided it has plenty of gold), panther 8.8 is actually a pretty good match for it.   the mobility difference and dpm plus gun handling of the p88 gives it a slight edge.

of coarse, the fact that maps limit mobility,  arty murders everything,  and it sees tier 10.  means its a joke of a tank.  a tier 7 with less armor that got thrown to tier 8 because WG decided they needed to please their russian dominatrix more.

if they gave panther 8.8 prem MM.  (and -7 frontal gun depression).  it'd be worth every cent.

THIS is the reason why rentals is such a good idea:  YOU get to find out what a turd on tracks it is.  I only played 4 games in it (all losses) and after bouncing the side armor of ANOTHER Panther 8.8 TWICE I haven't touched it since.

Lol people don't need to be experts to be taught to steer away from this sub-par tank. The worse armor than the panther II, worse gun depression, and weaker engine and top speed, was all sold via the belief that the lower price of this tank was a worthy buy. I own one but I feel ripped off :/ (btw, I get ammo racked almost all the time when I get hit in the bigger turret cheeks from the front.)

That's a horribly outdated video, inducing players to buy a tank that is T10 cannon fodder.

Sure, the Panther 88 functions well in the hands of a super unicum who has solid spotting in a Tier 8 match and a team with him.  But for the uninitiated--and in the vast majority of cases-- this tank is dreadful.

It is one of the first prems WG released when they decided pref MM wasn't a thing anymore.  They said "Hey! It can theoretically pen a T10 with regular ammo, so it doesn't need pref MM!"
