New iranian battle tank.

https://pjmedia.com/vodkapundit/2016/04/18/a-battle-tank-with-identity-issues/

quoth the link:

“What we have here is an engine design from 1960 powering an early '50 American chassis mated to a Chinese copy of a late '40s Soviet turret sporting a main gun deemed too small for Western forces back when I was in high school.”

Looks to me like an overgrown suicide vest.

The 105mm is more than powerful enough with modern munitions and low-recoil variants can be mounted on mobile light tanks like the M8 Buford.

Of course the advantage of the Soviet 125mm is its fantastic HE shell for infantry support. Something Western forces, other than the British, have lacked for decades.

As for this thing, it looks like a laughable conglomerate of mismatched parts, but on the flip side we don't know what sort of electronics it packs, how much it costs, nor how easy it is to train and maintain. Also unmentioned, and probably not easy to express in print, is its logistical footprint.

Who knows, it could be a local build knockoff of a knockoff and built of local mild-steel like many of the Iraqi tanks in 91 and 03 were, or it could end up like the Israeli Shermans that were cracking tanks decades newer. Or it could be something in between. Who knows.

What is the moon lander on the back of that lorry?

Striped down ZSU-57-2 turret?

The "lander" is a portable AA emplacement based off of the ZSU-57-2 system, sort of a cost effective rapid deployment platform.

That's what it looks like to me.

While the ZSU-57-2 wasn't that good when new, add a fire control radar and proximity fused rounds and you could have some seriously brutal AA at minimal cost while still having good mobility. Don't see a radar on that thing though, could it be folded up and stowed?

Could also be used in the direct fire support role given the right terrain.

Trust me, no one wants to see the inclusion of Iranian tanks more than me but modern retro-fits don't really belong in the setting of this game.

Better options would be the M36B1 Jackson as a tier VI premium TD, M47 or M60A1 Patton at tier IX and X respectively, Type 69 and ofcourse Mk.3P or Mk.5P Chieftain as maybe future campaign rewards.

These tanks saw action in the 1980s which fits WoT more than experimental prototypes from 2005+.

Even better would be the Shir 2 (Lion), a export version of the Chieftain designed to Iranian specifications but which was never produced/delivered due to the 1979 revolution.

t-34/100 aka t-100

t-34 with russian 100mm field gun

t-34/122 aka t-122

Pretty sure both of those are meant to be used against civilian uprisings and not an actual military foe.

I think between Iran, Egypt, Israel and some Arab states we have enough for a "middle-east" tech tree or at least some prem tanks.

i've thought about that for a while, would be cool to see. people would complain about israel being lumped in with islamic states.

but still might be hard to fill out the high tiers. merkava mk1 for tier 10 maybe? it did have an L7 gun.

Strip the ERA off the tank, and it might be a decent tier 10 (The L7 is too good to be at such a low tier. You could maybe have a case for tier 9, but not tier 8)

Give it the m4 revolting treatment and gimp the gun heavily.
