I have said this before , if all you are looking for is the
blue and purples... you are missing out on good players.
The greens are a vast untapped pool of players
to round out your teams. I don't know why , at least as
a filler / stand by , so many teams would not pick up
a player like me. You would find that we ( mostly but not all)
really want to play and we pay attention more then the
players with ultra high wn8/win rate. I really enjoy the game, as
many do , I have several tanks with much higher wn8/win rate
then my average like many greens. I may be talking to a wall
because you don't want to be seen running with greens but
I see teams go in with 1 or no reserves just because the wn8
dose not " make the grade". Just how/what I see going on.

I'll answer your post for you m8.
Your first point is if that people are only looking for blues and purples they are missing out on good players (greens), could be they are, but there's reasons why everyone wants the blues and purples and not the greens.
The biggest one is consistency, I was on a team about 7 months ago (at the time I had been running with them for around 8 months) and we needed a spot filled for a tournament so we picked up a green overall light blue recent player just to fill up the reserves and didn't expect to play him, well turns out some of our guys where gone a couple nights and we had to play the filler guy and he ended up doing ok, so we invited him back for the next week (a tier 5 tournament) and to be fair he consistently did more damage than the rest of us sporting purple / dark purple recent, however the tournaments started going up in tiers, tier 7 where he played like he had no idea what was going on and repeatedly went the wrong way even after we had gone over the strat, then there was a tier 8 tournament where he did just as poor as the tier 7, the straw that broke the camels back was another tier 8 tournament where he drove his heavy tank up onto of a ridge took a hit from an enemy IS-3, pulled back without returning fire, waited until the enemy IS-3 was reloaded and crested the ridge again this time to be tracked and damaged from the enemy IS-3's shot, it was at this point that the rest of us realized he didn't have a repair kit or the repair skill on his tank, so he was perma tracked and killed costing us a match.
Now as I said he did outperform us all in the tier 5 tournament but he did terrible in anything above tier 5, meanwhile the dark blues and purples and dark purples can perform well at every tier, not just one or two here or there like the pick up player could, that's not to say even the best players don't make mistakes (no one is immune to making mistakes) but they are generally much more aware of the map and their surroundings and much more consistent.
This isn't the only time it's happened to teams I have been on by the way, he was just the most memorable one that I felt like using as an example.
Another reason why you might not get picked is because a lot of teams have a set lineup of guys they use only adding new people when someone isn't going to make it for that week or when the amount of players raises, and even then they usually already have people in mind to fill those spots.
With people not filling their reserve slots there is no reason to fill your reserve slots if you know everyone is going to always be there, the weekday warfare team I am on could run with just 3 people (and never have to fill our reserve slot) because we never miss a day or a match.
Lastly, the teams that stack themselves up with purples, and blues with purple recent are in it to win, as far as a lot of them see it greens are not good enough to play to at the level that they play at to consistently win or at least place near the top of the tournaments they play, I tend to agree with that sentiment, that's not to say it can't be done, Commander Jay used to win a ton of tournaments back in the day and he used to use a lot of green guys, but it's just a lot simpler to get people whom are already great and know what to do than to hold their hand and walk them through every little part of the strat and what to do if something doesn't go according to plan.
