Ever since I switched to Russian tanks I've been on the biggest losing streak of the entire time playing this game.

And I mean like "My whole team is chewed up and spit out" kind of losing streak. I die, normally in minutes of the start and my team systematically gets picked off like the fighters in Independence Day. (Picture the president shouting "GET EM OUT OF THERE!!!")

I mean, I just dont understand what is going on.

Me dying is one thing. I'm not used to driving tanks that couldn't hit the broad side of Saturn yet. But why am I over and over and over and over on the losing team?

My game list looks like this.

Defeat
Defeat
Defeat
Defeat
Victory
Defeat
Defeat
Draw
Defeat
Victory

And my survival rate is hovering around 13%.

And I'm not really exaggerating.

Does the matchmaker just hate me or has this happened to other people?

Also, I would appreciate any tips on using Russian tanks. Cause at this rate it's going to take me the rest of the year to get through the T-28 and get in the KV.

And on that note, am I going to end up spending all this time getting the KV and end up hating it?

Thanks all for any comments and tips! :-)

Lol , thats just the luck of the draw.  i myself went up the dog troop ladder to the is-7 and have many runs like that, you just a big ass target in russian tanks over powered at times and most of the world hates you because the dev's played fav with that line.now that i got the maus i dont even use that is-7  much anymore. All lines have there ups and downs just find one you enjoy playing. with the way matchmaker works and the way some of the people in random battles are...... the odds will be stacked against you more than for you in any unit.

Honestly, I'm too the point where I stop every 3 or 4 games and watch an episode of Family Guy to keep from screaming.

I'm making like 40 - 80 exp per battle. It's going to take me a lifetime just to get the 85mm, nevermind the 13k needed for the KV. :(

Geezus .. I would say you are either doing something really wrong or you need to think about switching to a different line of tanks. Here's the write up from the Tankopedia on the T-28. Just some food for thought.

Quote

Soviet medium tank that has unpleasantly weak armor and big size. At the same time it has very good dynamics and great armament. With 85 mm cannon it can become support vehicle, with 57 mm ZiS-4 cannon it becomes universal tank. Still it should be used carefully.

Beyond that, think about your tactics. Are you rushing in where angels should fear to tread? Try holding back. Are you making appropriate use of cover? What role are you playing? With the numbers you're talking about I think something is fundamentally off. Honestly, my first thought was an SPG'er who doesn't know how to get the bird's-eye view or something like that. I consider myself a mediocre player and I still manage a 54% victory rate and a 33% survival rate.

Make some fundamental changes and see what impact they have on your play.

All in all I'd say your doing ok, since you have about a 50% win rate overall.  I noticed also you are playing the lower tier stuff, and I found the russian lower level stuff utter trash.  It does get better when you get into the KV13's and tanks like that.  Look at it as a horrible road you must drive on before you get to paradise, because the tanks get better, and eventually the match maker will decide it has hated you enuf, and it's time to get you some better team mates.  Sometimes I swear the matchmaker also groups folks up who have been losing battles, against those who have been winning.  It sure seems that way to me anyway.  Adding insult to injury.

Hang in there fella.  ;)

You sir, get a +1 for being supportive AND nice. Two things rarely seen on a forum, especially a MMO forum. :)

The T-28 is the worst grind I had, and that includes the 150k grind I did with the KV to get to the S-51.  The tank is so big it sticks out from behind cover.  It gets stuck in matches with much better tanks.  It is not powerful enough to take out anything in Tier 5.

However... getting to the KV is worth it.  Once you are to the KV it takes another 50 games to get all the upgrades and a decent crew, but it is a great tank.

Good luck and stick with it!

Ok, so it sounds like its just that the tank is a giant moving target with cardboard armor? lol

Ok, I'll stick through it then. I got my brother to join me and play my wingman, hopefully that will help some.

Thanks guys for your comments! :)

(Tips on Russian tanks are still always welcome :))

I seem to be an odd one that actually likes the T-28.  Now that said I will say that it does have lousy armor and its just way too huge to play hide and seek.  But if you can tag along with some heavy tanks or even some beefy mediums and let them take the fire and you play just a support role you'll be surprised what the guns on that T-28 can do.  They may not do ungodly damage but with decent penetration and firing rate they can add up.  With a lot of the lower russian tanks I find myself looking for the alternate routes to join into a firefight that is already going on.  Even if it's just to be a distraction. Even that can help.

Wow... so much hate for the T-28... I played 27 battles in it, won 14 of them and averaged 528 xp.  I actually enjoyed the tank, despite the crappy matchups it got. It was a MUCH easier grind than the A-20... now that tank sucks!  My tip for the T-28 is to hang out behind the heavies and snipe, then burst through and kill arty when an open line clears up.  But alas... if you're having that much trouble with the T-28, the KV will more than make up for it, just like the T-34 made up for the sh!tty A-20.

OP remember that winning or losing is not because you and your tank sucked. it just means that your TEAM lost the battle. Now sometimes it is because your team was out played, out shot, unlucky or actually sucked. Sometimes the match does come down to you but most of the time the match was won or loss well before that.

I love my soviet tanks. the T-26 and 46 are a blast to play. I wait for the right time and go all jihad on them running and gunning. Now the T-28 was a little tough at the start with its armor thin and a gun not so hot but when you get to that 85 MM, BOOOOOM! I become a glass cannon with 120 penetration for 160 of damage. This makes many a heavy to stop and take notice. What I do depending on the map is use my speed to set up scouting locations and wait till I see an enemy I can cripple down to 20% of less, preferably to 0% or get a good rear shot then BOOOOOOM! then I go hide again. Granted there are times I play lets drive in a circle around the heavy till I can kill it and the run away mode but over all I am a speeding ambusher sighting for arty.

Now for the KV, it is tough going in the beginning but then you get a big boom stick and life gets better. please note the the KV is slow and large and its big guns take 10 to 27 seconds to reload. But boy can they kill in one shot.

122mm U-11 <-- aim for the track and the weak spots
dmg: 450/370(HP)
pen: 61/160(mm)
rof: 6(r/m)
accuracy: 0.50(m)
aim time: 2.5(s)

107mm ZiS-6 <- one mean gun
dmg: 300/300/360(HP)
pen: 167/219/54(mm)
rof: 7.06(r/m)
accuracy: 0.39(m)
aim time: 3.0(s)

152mm M-10 <- if you hit it should be dead.
dmg: 700/700/910(HP)
pen: 110/206/86(mm)
rof: 2.7(r/m)
accuracy: 0.60(m)
aim time: 3.5(s)

I love my KV

T28 and KV were the worst grinds I've ever done as well.

I treat it like Vegas. You don't quit when you are on a heater.

But for World of Tanks, if I lose 5 or so games in a row I will log off. Clearly things aren't in my favor, I'm not play well, etc.

Take a break and come back hours later and try. Before today it had been ages since I lost more than 2 games in a row. So glad I still follow my rule.

I'll toss in a KV tip...

Use the 122 U-11 to grind out the KV-2 turret and your Doomcannon™ of choice.

But, do not use the KV-2 turret until you have one of those guns. (the 107 or the 152)

The extra HP and armor may seem like a good thing, but the turret traverse is abysmal (worst in the game infact), the extra weight will slow you down, and that big bobble-head makes a fantastic target.  :Smile-hiding:

(BTW: Has anyone else noticed the keyboard in Faded's avatar seems to have two U's for some reason? )  ;)

I'm with you on this one, I had a 52% win rate, now down to 48%
for every one I win I loss 3 to 4 matches. doesn't seem to matter what tier.
Hell the other day 3 of us took one side of the map I killed 6 dmg 2 other my team mates each had 2 kills that 10 between the 3 of us....was still a loss as the rest of the team was wiped on the other side........so what can you do, nothing just play the best you can and hope other on your team will as well.

Your survival rate is a bit interesting and makes me ask:  Do you find yourself on the tip of the spear during a battle?  Survival rate is usually pretty poor there as even the big tanks will get plunked to death when the other team sees the top guy offered up in battle too quickly.  Maybe playing a bit more reserved for a while by sniping and/or being an arty bodyguard may boost that up a bit.

If it's a matter of fighting to the last tank, and often you are that last tank, then there's not much that can be done there except to keep playing tough and work through the hard times.
Meanwhile, remember (if you aren't doing it already) to do the little things that can maybe turn a match.  Give out positive suggestions while the countdown is going on like asking your team to stick together in groups, suggesting certain areas of the map for defending/attacking points, etc.

Oh, one other idea might be this.  As you are progressing thru your tank's chart, maybe upgrading a module as soon as its available isn't the best thing in the world to do right away because it may throw you into matches you aren't ready for.   Sometimes its worth a few more battles in the lower tiered equipment so your tank crew is able to get more experience versus contemporary foes rather than be thrown into battles vs upper tiered foes simply because you've got a new big cannon.   Just saying...
