Well, good thing about the rating system being used now, but it's potentially very exploitable, so a few questions/points...

a) If just one of the players on the team has no tourney rating, does that make the whole team be counted as a "new" team? So five gold league players and a skrub would make a "new team"?

b) If, in this case, 4 gold league players and 2 tourney bots formed a team, would the average tourney rating of all 6 count as a "standard" experience level?

c) If a and b are true, something that could be done to prevent this sort of thing from happening, or at least reduce the effectiveness of it, would be  to calculate the team rating using only the players with the top ratings on the team, using the number actually playing (in this case 5)...and discard the lowest ratings, of the number of alternates (in this case 1)...so artificially weighting one's team would be less effective.

d) Are these ratings going to be displayed anywhere? It wouldn't be fun to join a team, only to find out once the tourney is over that the members aren't rated so you'll get worse prizes.

"new" teams are solo people who que up for a team that is randomly put together by WG, it would basically be a random battle for gold. thats what I think it is anyways, could be

completely wrong

Attention tankers! We are introducing a tournament rating system, to assign teams to specific groups! This rating system will allow teams to face others at or around their rating level. Please see below for some important information.

  • Each player has a rating based solely on tournament battles. The rating does not include random battles, team battles, clan wars or strongholds.
  • The system tracks tournament participation from March 2016 to the present. Any tournaments before March 2016 are not counted.
  • The team rating is the average rating from members of the team.
  • Teams in the Premium group will usually face other very experienced teams. The gold prizes for the Premium group are usually higher than the Standard or New Team groups.
  • A new team is a team with players who have never participated in a tournament or has only participated in a few tournaments.
  • A new team will only face other new teams.
  • After completing several tournament, a new team will be seeded into the Premium or Standard groups.

If my understanding of the rules is correct, "Standard" and "New" teams have no chance of winning the Type 59 which I think is pretty dumb. I've been doing tournaments for over two years and I don't think I'd qualify for the "Premium" teams which means I'd be bumped down to "Standard" and only be able to earn 32 total points. So because I'm not a super unicum and can't do well in every single tournament, I have no chance of a Type 59.

Due to the format it would be too exploitable if they didn't do this.  You could just put a couple sock puppet accounts with 0 tournament rating on your team to get the easier division level.

The real problem here is that they introduced this system with a tournament like this, instead of announcing it back in March so that people could build up their tournament rating in preparation for getting into the top divisions in the larger payout tournaments.  There are no doubt many good players who haven't played many tournament matches that could compete in the highest division just fine, but will simply be locked out of it.

I think thats the whole point of it, every player wants the type 59 but only a small % will, like the top 0.01 elite basically...

The issue is that yeah, everyone wants a Type 59, but with a format like this, the same people keep winning a Type 59 over and over and over again. The Zombie points for a tournament like this should determine the teams that get the physical prizes and points earned in groups should determine the tank prizes.

2 Questions:
-Can you post the formula for this new rating system?
-Is there a chance to see our rating in-game or somewhere before the tourny starts?

I'm not saying they should be participation rewards. I'm saying, like the dozens of tournaments that gave out Type 59s before, everyone should have an equal chance of winning the Type 59. It shouldn't be limited to the top like 5% of the server. That's what crap like Bronze/Silver/Gold league is for.

WG had to do something for the top players to makeup for the gold lost due to the clan wars payout decrease.

the whole thing is not worth the trouble as only the top 5 of each group win something - unlike before where (for example) the top 50% win something. Depending on how many teams sign in, its useless to participate unless you play exceptionally well.
A badly thought through event that favours experts but does not motivate new/inexperienced players. Another fail, WG!

This is like one of those TV ads that never mention the product they are selling until the end.  Something something zombies, zombie apocalypse, blah blah blah, spooky people risen from the dead, blah blah, zombies.  Oh and this is a tournament. we have to mention that as an afterthought because we were too busy talking about zombie apocalypse, the undead, zombie movie tie-in, oh yeah and a Corsair headset, blah blah blah, zombies.   Who is coming up with this garbage?  This is kindergarten-level failure of communication.

For the tournament though, zombies aren't really anything.  Zombie kills are blah blah blah stuff that forces WG employees to explain things to us via the forums because it has no relation to what WoT is about

Thank you for admitting it.

do you not see overall prizing where the top 40% win premium tanks? scaling with higher tiers

not top 40% teams - but top 40% of 'zombie' kills.

You have to be in the top 6 of a group on a day to even get any zombie kills. All the reward tanks will be distributed amongst the top teams who already were top 6 and won gold. Unless you are a top player, you will get nothing.
