I'm not sure whether this was intentional or not, but I noticed that the gold HE ammo for the GW Panther has the exact same penetration (66-110 mm) and deals the same damage (900-1,500 hp) as the non-gold HE ammo. I only use gold ammo in Clan Wars, so it doesn't make much difference to me, but why would anyone buy the gold HE ammo when it's not a whit better than the regular?

Problem with GW Panther ammo?

The gold ammo has bigger splash damage, so you can do more damage on a near miss.

Aha, thanks, Lert. Wouldn't damage, though, splash or otherwise, be a result of explosive charge? If both have the same 900-1,500 damage range, then both should have the same explosive charge. In order to get more damage, you'd need a bigger explosion. Only with more explosive charge should you see a higher damage range and more splash damage. It seems to stand to reason.

Shaped charges divert explosive power to whatever they're shaped to divert it to.
