Ridiculous change to the game, eliminating any chance of talking to friends on other team, and eliminating some of the fun conversations that can ensue with known wot issues or challenges. All too common overreaction from WG from a few "sensitive" individuals who say they have been bullied...

Or maybe people just like to talk to people on the other team ?.
There was an option to turn off chat anyway, why did they even waste time doing this ?.

I guess this is a case where the bad outweighed the good. I miss the standard jokes I'd make during the count down "Sheilds up" or my favorite "[Insert Generic Smack Talk Here]". Some times another geek would say "Arm Photon Torpedoes" or I lol'd when a guy wrote back [Insert Witty Retort Here]. You could also use it for psyops. Just make a Trump/Clinton comment at the start and watch the enemy pay more attention to that than the game. I also enjoyed congratulating an enemy on a really nice shot.
But really, and you have to see it if you are honest with yourself, the past year or so the conversations are either non-existent or dominated by ragers. Not that it ever screwed up my game, I can do that well enough on my own as you can tell by my stats, but chat is no longer an open forum to converse with people. Guess the devs saw that too and eliminated it. Who knows. Maybe if we can talk amongst ourselves in a civil manner for a while, we can convince them to bring it back.

In real life a certain amount of "cross team chat" was available. Granted that more often than not the two sides used it to hurl rather creative and obscene insults at one another, nevertheless there were times when it was needed. Now I will grant that such things as arranging temporary truces to recover wounded, arrange for prisoner exchanges or negotiating surrender terms are beyond the usual scope of WoT battles. But there are still times it might be useful.
Besides, WoT battles usually have a totally unhistorical mix of units from all nations on both sides of every battle. To think that the two sides couldn't talk to one another if they wanted to is absurd. Last but not least, ending cross team chat has most definitely NOT ended obscene and abusive language on chat. In one relatively recent example a team mate who was upset over the team getting roflstomped proceeded to demonstrate how "mature" he/she/it was by spamming the channel with the "c" word for female genetalia. Something that given the individual's obvious personality flaws was not dependent on cross team chat being unavailable.

So WoT is like Facebook or SnapChat? Who knew! Funny, I never played tanks to talk to people. The only interaction I need is for my team to be cohesive, as such, we can talk to each other. Why I would want to yak at the enemy team is beyond me. Wanna say "hi" do so from your garage friend list. Public chat by and large was just a conduit for rage, insults, and preening pony boys to stat bash.
