As we know it now, the term "Iron Curtain" was made famous by Winston Churchill in his "Sinews of Peace" speech at Westminster College in March of 1946.


Although the term itself was used to describe the stifling political atmosphere of Soviet hegemony in the post-war Soviet Occupation Zone (East Germany) it was quickly associated with the physical border itself (the IGB) as the communists steadily fenced, walled and fortified their side of it.

We old...and can remember freezing our asses off on the IGB, after going to our LDA, then moving forward to our GDP, in our HMMWVs to face the DDR, while in the 3ID.....


....only to go back to the Kaserne for a WHB (Wurzburger Hof Brau....that's the only acronym I'll give you!)
