While a bit late here's my skin for the SU-122-44 Victory Edition I entered for the "To Skin A Tank" contest. It placed as a runner up despite being my first ever skin
There are some things I may do to the skin over time and fix and tweak in a v1.1 when 9.17 comes out. The File will only include the textures, none of the source files used or anything.
Here is the original post for the contest containing everything from when I posted this. I may honestly consider more tank skinning, not sure yet. Regardless, cheers everybody and have a happy December!

Note: I am currently in the process of updating this skin to a HD model for the SU-122-44. It will take time since the textures are less obvious in what is what and they contain more "Small Parts" that require more attention to detail than normal. With this, I will begin to create new skins for other tanks that are HD since I doubt they'll be changed anytime soon. This could take some time, the original alone took 1-2 Weeks and this may take some time.
Enjoy! (and of course if you use it for anything give credit)
Holy jesus looking at some of these skins I automatically probably wont even win this, jfc. Well may as well submit this since I worked on it.

Better View of the Barrel Quote [Edited In]:
[Reserved Place for Potential Video]
So actually this was kinda an interesting inspiration. I decided that since the theme as of late were these tanks celebrating the people and liberty and all that (The Patriot and Liberte) why not have a little soviet love too?
Keep in mind, this may get a little cheesy, so bear with me. I'm not kissing the exhaust ports on the back of a Tiger I here, purely the inspiration for this design
This tank was inspired by the WW2 era and has some small bits on it. The tank is clearly dripping with the colors of communism, painted with the major colors of it Red, Gold, and occasionally White and Black for accents.
The sides were done up in the classic sun ray style you see on old fashion propoganda with the fist in the air symbolizing the power of the people and the workers, with the back deck done up in the soviet stars trailing behind kinda for a subtle fact this little TD is FAST so it was kinda a low key stretch of a pun: "The Shooting Communist Star"
The Top is plastered with the Soviet Victory Banner (hence Victory Edition) which was the flag flown on May 1st 1945 when the Reichtag was captured and of course when Hitler had committed suicide the day prior. This was actually a neat piece of history I learned and I wanted to incorporate it more perhaps with some dates on the side with an outline of the Reichtag, however, I decided the clean sides with the ray lines looked better and the Idea was scrapped (however, the files for the skin still have the prototype of the idea)
The majority of the rest is mostly just fancy Red and Gold accents all around the tank, The main road wheels having a golden star on them (oddly enough the front road wheel appears to be turned a little bit compared to the others) with the sides having the tools done up in a new paint job (the log however, remained the same by conscious choice however i was half tempted to reskin it to say something on the back. This idea was scrapped early).
The front was probably my favorite part. Sporting the fist for the working class raising up over a red city foreground holding the USSR branding and Hammer and Sickle above it (due to the nature of stars all over the barrel, I omitted the star typically above the hammer and sickle like the flag usually sports). Around the gun mantlet is the quote from Stalin himself (or so its said) "I believe in one thing only, the power of human will". Further driving home the whole union of the people motif and the union of the workers.
Finally on the gun I felt a little wild so i plastered the barrel in a star setup (once again looping back to "Shooting Star" with a red break with the words on the side (albiet hard to see at these angles) the quote from a man Vasily Zaytsev a fighter and sniper who partook in the battle of stalingrad with his quote: "For us there was no land beyond the Volga"
Personally I would have loved to translate many of these quotes to Russian, but Paint.Net in my current configuration as my main editing program doesn't support different fonts of anything outside of English, so it would be in plain old font and I didn't want that. In the future maybe I'll update this skin with Russian quotes and maybe some improvements.
This took like... 30 man hours, a week in time, and several 2AM Days in that week to do. Being a student and all its hard to find time to work on the skin of a tank.
It was actually really fun as a challenge for me to learn what actually goes into making a tank skin and it was pretty fun to do when it wasn't hurting my brain at 1 in the morning.
Truth be told this was actually my first attempt and first time skinning a tank, I've had some experience with photo editing before and Paint.Net is my daily driver for any photo working needs because of its extensive plugin community. So its not like i was in super unfamiliar territory.
Some things worth noting however, is that the SU-122-44 uses the T-34 track skins. I had to dig around to find which tracks matched then locate their files, fortunately I found the non-HD tracks which the SU uses and now have recolored the tracks to a gold to accent the dark cherry red and starred road wheels. Keep in mind I have no idea if this skin change affects any other tank. To my knowledge it just affects the SU-122-44.
As for why I picked the SU-122-44. I wanted it to be a soviet vehicle and my favorite so far. Why not my favorite tank destroyer? Honestly I'd love it if the SU-122-44 Victory Edition was like a THING in world of tanks. (Yay two SU's to grind crew together with along with my 100Y!) but that said I dont think the SU-122-44 is popular enough to warrant something like that, so that more of a pipe dream than a plumbers wet fantasy in the middle of the PVC section of Home Depot.
That said, there was alot of work and resources kinda placed into this, eventually resulting in a Paint.Net file with 81 Layers to it!!! Not counting the layers stored in other files and the other resources ive pulled in making this around a 100+ layer project for a skin, this includes texture layers and layers used to ID parts and layers eventually compressed when finished! Believe me, Paint.Net could NOT come out with a folder system any sooner, they really need to get on it, because scrolling through that nightmare is a mess.
In the end, I mildly regret not recording all my time doing this so I could look back at its progress and eventual completion. Regardless, the end result was something I was happy about for a first attempt and it may result in me making more skins in the future as a past time
So some things I figured I'd say about the project and ideas I had
-The main editing file is >20MB
-The collection of files used for editing is 21 w/o counting the actual skin files in the game (add two for that)
-Using the mechanics of WoT i considered having a two stage skin that changes the closer you get to the tank, this ultimately was tossed aside because I wanted this to be a simple and clean setup you could enjoy close up and far away
-My favorite color is purple
-3 Razzleberry Peace Teas were harmed in the making of this skin as well as 4 bottles of water and 1 glass of apple juice.
-I almost accidentally deleted ALL the files at the very end trying to unselect everything. Apparently CTRL + D means delete in windows, where its unselect all in Paint.Net. I worked as an IT for a while I SHOULDA KNOWN THAT! Oh well, habits are habits.
-This skin wasn't designed to pander to WGRU so they would call WGNA to smite them if they didn't pick it at winner albeit I know imma get accused of it anyway
-I will upload this skin to my Drop Box after the contest finishes if anyone wants it (maybe earlier). Upon request I'm sure I can provide the .pdn files used to make it if you're curious to see whats under the hood. Albeit once again, after the contest.
-I may upload a video at some point of this skin in action if MM stops trolling me and RNG has the decency to give me a break from plowing me like winter snow.
-I honestly expect to lose this competition, I've seen the entries so far and some look really awesome. Thus I did the contest for the challenge to my skill with editing game files and texture mostly as I have an interest and hobby tinkering with the files of games. So winning (at all) is merely just a bonus, this was a fun little thing to do.
-I actually got sick during my time making this, Sore throat and runny nose. Ugh.
-I actually int.entionally placed that period in the wrong place to mes,s with you and the comma as well
-The images on Imgur actually had -3 likes by the time I finished typing out my submission, must be that bad or that stronk in soviet love [Edited in]
Other ideas I had included:
-Tog-xedo, Putting a tog in a Tuxedo. Figured that would be a little weird looking, but cute none the less. Perhaps with a total pimp cane and "TOG DIRTY TO ME" on the sides However, unless MeatHead alone is judging this, probably wouldn't win against other ideas. Other than for being maximum Hype
-Screaming Eagle T29, honestly I though this tank would be more popular, plus I figured that with the T26E5 P, we really didnt need another murica tank at the moment.
-Lewis from Mystery Skulls themed Ferdinand, for fun and personal use, Id be relying too hard off other peoples work to make the image of lewis happen and the rest of it could easily be done. However, I don't think Mystery Skulls is popular enough to warrent any wow factor here. So I decided to tackle it for a personal skin at a later date given the Ferdinand is my second favorite TD atm with the help of a friend of mine who is better at character art than me. (Pulled over 5k damage in it before WOO!). Also shout out to those who know what Mystery Skulls is and the Animations done!
-Doing a White Tiger skin for the Tiger P, given I figured Tigers may also be popular. I skipped this Idea as well.
-Tom and Jerry themed Maus, there was really no point to this idea besides a cheeky play on "Mouse" and a throwback to my favorite childhood cartoon. This idea is for smiles at best.
Thats pretty much the short and long of the end notes. Happy hunting out there guys!
Everything is contained in spoilers. Theres quite a bit of reading material if you're interested If not you may see the contents in the non picture spoilers in the TLDR:
Inspiration: The tank was inspired by the union often depicted in pop culture of Russian for the USSR. Strong everyday working men who are unionized fighting for whats best. Essentially the will of the Russian spirit and the army of men who fought in WW2.
Work: Lots of work, little sleep, 30+ hours, lots and lots of layers were used.
Other: I am not pandering to WGRU in anyway. This is a NA contest anyway. I had other ideas, but they just didnt fit WoT well. Also I love the color purple.
GGWP GL happy hunting. You may move on your way now.
Good luck comrades! Got some sick entries in this!
