The really bad thing about a central grease point is that it must be greased every day and should not go more than a couple of days without a pump or two of grease. This keeps grease fresh in the lines, but the further grease has to travel in a line, the more likely it will begin to harden before it reaches the actual application point, particularly when separated oil can bleed-off in a high heat environment. In those days, all grease was clay-based.

Most of the time where a grease line is concerned, there is usually considerably more grease in the line than is actually needed at the point of application, which a bit wasteful and why they're not used much anymore.

Before WW2, ball and roller bearings were not precision-formed and ground the way they are nowadays. Back then, they were sprayed molten into a tank of water, salt, or oil, and sieve-sorted after sufficient cooling.

Any chance that you might be doing a Chieftain's Hatch on the Stridsvagn 103?
