WoT ought to ban all mods. No serious software game author would allow mods. This is an open door to alleged cheating and thus compromises the integrity of the WoT game. The legit mods are nickle and dime apps.

If they want mods, they need to be the ones to do them.

I have never used mods. And I am not against mods, because thanks to mods I now have things in the vanilla client that I like, such as view range and render circles, damage panels, tank carousel, last known positions on map, etc. I am not all that bothered by people who use illegal mods, as they risk their accounts for a very small advantage.

I agree, but I don't use mods.  ;)  Ban them or implement them into the client, imho.

Let's review a few things here. The following is a list of in-game features that were originally mods:

Spotting range and view range circles on minimap

Camera direction line on minimap

Last spotted locations on minimap

Double-row tank carousel

Damage panels

Without mods, these would never have been added to the game.

I believe that mods should be allowed, but only under closer supervision by WG. There are still plenty of useful or fun mods out there, from auto equipment and crew return to minion voice mod. They allow for customization of the in-game interface to suite individual preferences, while not giving an unfair advantage on the battlefield, or are there just for fun. However, WG should pay much closer attention to which mods are allowed.

I would say the first thing WG should do is to make their policy on which mods are legal and illegal much more clear and concise, as well as making it much more easily available and making sure new players see it very early. Then, they can crack down on players who use illegal mods.

Also, what do you mean Klaus is right again? (only half-joking)

There are so many good mods, a lot of which WG has now implemented.

It's like saying guns should be banned because some crazy shot up some people. It's not the guns fault.

There's lot of developers that provide tools and documentation to assist mod making.

Haven't you guys noticed that some of the legal mods have already been and continue to be implemented into the vanilla version? You like that duel row carousel? Thank a mod. Last know position? Thank a mod. Damage panel? Thank a mod.

Don't you understand what makes PC games so great?

That is right, your ability to MOD them and CUSTOMIZE them to your personal tastes.

But naturally people want to ruin everything

so cheats & hacks are being generated as well.

Nothing new considering people.

Agree, but with amendment:

All mods but cosmetic mods.

Everything else is bloat and not needed (ui add ons), or a crutch (xvm, reload timers)

Mods in non-MMOs like Skyrim are fine because who cares. But in MMOs, they need to be carefully monitored and clear rules need to be stated about them. In my opinion, the only mods not in the game client left that are popular, widely used, not cheats, and the loss of which would detriment user experience are the full damage panels, custom tank markers and reticles, custom skins, WoT Battle Assistant (solely because Wargaming voiced their approval for it; I personally believe it provides an immense advantage over vanilla, but it's going to be implemented into vanilla eventually anyway), and the automatic garage item/crew return options (like camo net/binocs automatically returning to vehicles).

Mods like XVM detriment gameplay quality, because of the number of people who see a low chance to win and quit, or focus down higher skilled players. Mods like the ones found in Warpack devalue skill in the game.

To your point: Mods made Warcraft, for example, great? Laughable.

I don't care about your WoW.

But Mods made my world of tanks experience great.

I love to personalize.

Gasai is right ( no surprise )

Perhaps not, but Counter-Strike was originally a Half-Life mod and Defense of the Ancients (which League of Legends is essentially a clone of) was originally a Warcraft III mod.

You can't say those would never have been added to the game for certain.  Had there not been mods, folks would have asked for such features, thus putting pressure on Wargaming to implement them.  It's not like the mod authors came up with any ingenious ideas that anybody else wouldn't have come up with.  Those are all common sense things that lots of people, including Wargaming, would have thought of.  In fact, I bet Wargaming thought of all those things before the mods originally came out; I've worked on lots of products and I've never ran into a situation where a customer thought of an idea that we hadn't thought of already.

To be honest, I bet that those features would have been added earlier had there not been any mods because Wargaming wouldn't have been able to count on the modding community to supply the missing features.  I also say this because a lot of the developers probably play the game.  When developers really want a feature added that will personally benefit them, they add it and lots of times without being told to (I'm a software engineer and do this all the time provided I won't get in trouble for it).
