Very good video. Now what was that you were singing at the end of the second one?

Is this similar to the one we saw at Tankfest NW?

For those of us who's favorite tank in the game is the M4 Sherman, could you expound a little on the differences between the two?  I see the M4A1 has applique armor, the mantle looks different and it has the loader hatch.

Can we get a better explanation on this, Chieftain? Like how did that work, they just kept firing until the enemy crew got too irritated with all the ping sounds and just had to get out to keep thier sanity?

Don't know if this has been answered yet, but it's The Foggy Dew, a song about the Easter uprising in Ireland in 1916. I highly recommend the one remake by the Young Dubliners if you haven't heard it.

Great video as always chieftan, if you ever need an assistant, for gods sake hire me!

the  "a" code usually refers to the engine, not much else.  Hatches periscopes etc didn't get a code just noted.

M4: Welded hull radial engine

M4a1:  Cast hull, radial engine

All others were welded, though some late models had cast fronts (composite hull) or new fronts (no bumps for the drivers, single slope) without changing code.  Cupola and hatches also wouldn't be reflected in code.

a2  Twin diesels (basis of M10).  Mostly went to Britain and Russia (and the Marines).

a3  Ford gas Engine (US only), Most likely to stay in service post war, not lend-leased.  Preffered model, but engine production was limited.

a4  Chrysler multibank diesel (five 6 cylinder engines in a star shape.  Pretty much British-only (longer hull).

a5  Ram (per Video)

a6  Tubine diesel (VERY Rare), Only 75 made, only time I've seen one was in Girls Und Panzer. (longer hull)

105, 76 (plus new turret) and wet stowage (W) are usually shown in code e.g. M4a1(76)W would be the shown tank with the new turret and 76mm plus "wet stowage" bins for the ammo (and no ammo behind those bullseye stars).

you can add on

e2 Special model "jumbo" new hull and turret with extra armor (US only)

e4/e6 76mm in 75 or (e6 105mm turrets), postwar defense aid conversions of older tanks.

e8 HVSS suspension (wider tracks are the give away).  The US Army standardized on the M4A3E8 (76) W post-war which as Zaloga points out, was almost a new tank compared to 1st Shermans.
