All you really need to know is that they suck, not worth it in the slightest lol.

A quick list shows the next Japanese naval gun is a 155mm and after that a 20cm.

They need to have 125mm of pen, 6 meters of splash... Standard shell 1400, gold shell just makes bigger splash... >> Only way...WARGAMING improve the gun.. it SUCKS SO BAD

It just doesn't pack enough punch when you're up against any moderately armored targets, which you'll always be going heavy lanes in that thing popping shots off for like 650 dmg at the most with the PREMIUM rounds...lucky to get over 400 with prem going against something like an E100/Maus/T110E5 frontally.

Now if all you're fighting are Grilles, BatChats, etc then you'll be doing nice damage...but either those targets will be too far away or moving too fast for you to actually hit reliably with that derp gun. So even spamming premium rounds will net you less damage per game than you'd probably get using non-premium on the standard 600 alpha gun. The concept is nice, but the derp just doesn't pack enough punch :(

If you know how HE mechanics work and have a basic understanding armor models, it's quite easy to do consistently nonsense damage to everything. Facing a T95 or E3 from the front? Drop and HE shell under him. 600+ every time. IS-4? Shoot his roof and lol your way to 700+. Maus frontally? No problem. Shoot the lower half of the turret face. HE splashes right through the engine deck. 400-700 every shot. And that's just damage, not crits. Shots with no crit/crew damage are exceedingly rare.

It is not under powered or even very inconsistent. It is, however, bad for gameplay, IMO. Tier 6 is bad enough with the O-I and and KV2. Leave this kind of super-crippling derp heavies there. Please find some other way to make the Type 4 and 5 competitive. Such as RoF for mobility or (gasp) useful armor models.

So you mean that armour actually works a bit? but does it really? A perfectly sidescraping heavy...pff who cares...400-700 dmg. but lets nerf pen and aim to increase the effectiveness of armour. Reduce the alphas of the big TDs because they outperform other tanks, introduce new gun with huge alpha. Seems like the developmental teams are trying to undermine each other.

The gun works great if you have some brain. Not needed a bigger one. If you have to buff, buff it. More accuracy, less aiming time, less dispersion on the move/turret movement, more RoF. If you put a 20cm on that it will have a great alpha but ugly RoF. I dont think it will be good for a slow heavy. I prefer a better RoF
