The problem with education in the US is that it's designed and set up pretty much solely to funnel kids into college, and not to prepare them or educate them about life after school. Then on top of that, the colleges these kids are being directed towards and funneled into are only concerned about their bottom line and making a profit, so they're only making the problem worse.

The housing market in Australia is kinda insane; it is in a massive bubble that is sure to pop at some point or another, and when it does there is gonna be massive amounts of money lost.

The US did the housing-bubble thing too, and in some places it's already back less than a decade later.

One of the reasons the cost of living is so insane in many metro areas in the US is that housing is untenably expensive.   The problem with "living wages" in the US is at least as much a result of costs that are too high in those areas, as it is that incomes are too low.

In other news... White House staff taking part in Trumps "Fake News Awards" would be in clear violation of ethics rules:

Well... that was an interesting distraction. Got pretty close, but not exact.

EDIT: Messed around on the WoWs public test (mostly to get the rewards for the live server).

Not impressed with Yamato. I know its the Yamato... and its guns can lol-overmatch anything in the game. And I dont mind slow lumbering BBs, but it just didnt feel nice to play.

Much more impressed with torpedo acceleration on Shimakaze. The 12km torps go down to 9.6km and go something like 72 knots which give the best balance of speed/damage/range. Tried the 8km torps, and getting those down to 6.4km was hilarious with their 81 knot speed. Made them nearly impossible to dodge, but I dont really think theyre practical (that being said I probably would run with them sometimes just to meme).

Gonna try Midway tomorrow... see if the Skillway is worth the grind (not that I'll stop now since Im at tier 7). Maybe try Des Memes again too. Liked the DPM.

Yamato is the one battleship I have played that should be good but just doesn't work for some reason. I think it gets focused too much and its almost completely unable to escape from being focused. It also doesn't seem nearly as accurate as it is on paper. I'd say in practical terms Montana is a good deal more accurate.

It's Friday! It seems I sprained my shoulder on Tuesday!  My home Internet is a garbage fire!

Bleah.

On the plus side I got some more Archer documents to look at.  I'm going to see if I can see a doctor at a walk in clinic and then go buy myself a sling, assuming it IS a sprain.

Housing prices are out of control here in Toronto too.  I am lucky to have a decent apartment at very good rent because there is rental price controls here while a tenant occupies a place. Max about 2%/year.  But I can't afford a condo or anything less than a house either, and the houses on my street are probably over a million.  And it's a nice street and they're reasonably nice houses but not unusually large or anything.

I would not be surprised if I end I living here for a very long time because it will be a lot more expensive to move anywhere else.  (the apartments in my building, spruced up a bit, are renting at about 35% more than what I pay now)

Could it be due to the "fatter" pattern of having slightly worse dispersion and an extra 3 guns over the Yamato?

Russian hackers are reportedly conducting probing attacks and attempting to compromise the US Senate's security. The main tactic so far has been setting up bogus login pages for the Senate's official email system. The same group has also reportedly been poking around Olympic organizations. The group involved is believed to be one of the two responsible for the theft of DNC emails during the 2016 presidential campaign, as well as similar phishing attempts during the French presidential election, largely targeted at Macron's campaign, presumably in support of the very Kremlin-friendly Le Pen.

I wonder if there are ever any efforts to create a fake "bite" on those, feed them false information, and see where it pops out.

While not as crude, rude, or vulgar as Trump's racist comments... I wonder where the condemnation is for Pelosi's racist-sounding comment:

Borderline whataboutism from a Trump-friendly outlet aside, describing 5 old white men as 5 old white men is hardly a slur of the same caliber as tarring millions of people, including a large number of Americans, as undesirables solely on their national origin.

Is it an example of Nancy Pelosi's usual smug tone-deafness? Sure. Is it a nakedly racist defamation of millions? Absolutely not.

It struck me as rather easily coming across as "These people aren't qualified to discuss this issue because of their race and sex".

I don't think I'm going out on a limb to say that their combined perspectives might be a bit limited.  But said in maybe the worst way possible?  What a terrible, stupid "joke".

Yeah, the NYP wasn't the best source to site, but that aside, here's some other coverage of both stupid statements.  (And if my first comment about Pelosi looked like an equivication between her statement and Trump's moronic tirade, that wasn't my intention and my wording was poor.)

I'd say Iowa also has better dispersion. In my experience the higher tier US BBs consistently place at least some shots exactly where you aimed them, where it seems like the high tier IJN BBs have issues shooting high or low. This is the opposite of what the sigma values would indicate, but its what I've experienced. It doesn't help that the 18'' guns and the ranges you normally shoot at throw my leads way off. Something about the velocity of those guns and how they slow down throws me off.

White House staff reportedly "frustrated" and "demoralized" by Trump's headfirst plunge back into controversy. They had been hoping to move on from discussion about Trump's mental fitness in the coming days by focusing on what they could present as positive economic news. As usual, some senior Republicans have muttered things at their shoes, and the right-wing's talking heads are defending Trump's '[edited]hole' comments as just being him "telling it like it is". A few more practical voices have commented that behavior like this is the reason why Trump's approval rating is stuck at around 35%.

https://www.politico.com/story/2018/01/12/trump-shithole-comment-aides-react-337961

...That his approval rating has managed to stick at 35% despite everything is an interesting commentary on his supporters.

Like... its not bad and Im aware of that fact, but its just really meh to play. Its not convincing me to buy Nagato, and grind through Amagi and Izumo to get it. Meanwhile Shima convinced me to eventually grind through Mutsuki and the rest of the line...

Also it sounds like Musashi will now be 750k free xp... which is good, because the previous price just made it not worth buying because free xping to Yamato was cheaper.
