The Finnish tried exactly that back in 1961, but it wasn't successful. I've still yet to come across any pictures of this trial, just that it was some sort of specially made thing attached to the turret as there's no way the gun would fit inside the turret normally. But as far as I'm aware, there are no pictures. Much like there are no pictures of the Finnish T-34/85 with the 7.5cm StuK 40.

So... Are the Finns secretly Orks or something?  It seems like every crazy idea involving bashing a tank and a gun together comes from them.

More news on "Clan Bases" in WoWS.

https://worldofwarsh...es-for-success/

Since I'm on quite a bit, I'd be happy to take on a Builder role for the clan, and focus on benefits that are as widely applicable as possible.

Random Idea:

What if we had personal missions, but for clans? So a similar setup in missions but when anyone in the clan gets the mission done it applies to the whole clan. But only to those who are in the clan at the time of completion, otherwise you have to complete it yourself or with those in the clan who joined after that mission was done.

Seems kinda fun and a good social alternative to whatever junk strongholds and cw are supposed to be.

Im sure somebody said the about the 17pdr and the Sherman back in the 40s... and yet someone was crazy enough to figure it out.

Sure, has the patch happened? When it does let me know, and I'll log in and set you to builder.

The Comet has a smaller turret ring though, so it's not quite the same. I imagine the gun wouldn't have any room if mounted directly in the turret, or could possibly shatter the tank itself given the forces involved.

Comet is garbage. Its just a slow Cromwell.

Since the Cromwell can't hit anything, I'll take it.  I have a big preference for the 50% better depression and v-stabs.  Cromwells are just too fast for their own good.

And it worked... BARELY.   Not knocking the Firefly, but I think the Chieftain's video inside the turret showed how very little room there was in there for the loader or for the loader to actually load the shells.

I didnt say it worked well... just that Im sure somebody said "oh that'll never fit in there" (thats what she said), and then they made it work. That being said, the Firefly did work, even if only poorly. As LiB said the turret ring on the Comet is smaller, so its not exactly the same but Im sure if they (the Finnish) had wanted to do it, they would have made it work.

My guess is the turret would have resembled something along the lines of a Conway, but smaller.

I just looked up turret ring diameters for Charioteer and Comet... and they were both 64 inches (if the numbers I found were at all accurate, which they could very well not be). So it probably would have looked a lot like a Charioteer... just with a Comet hull and suspension instead of a Cromwell's. While turret ring diameter isnt the only limiting factor, it doesnt seem like it would be in this case.

I can't imagine it was a large, boxy turret like a Charioteer or Conway. Lokomo Ltd. designed a new mounting for it, which implies fitting it into the existing turret. I suspect this would have required removing the old mantlet and fitting a new, longer mantlet, which brings to mind something like the Conqueror's pointed mount more than anything else.

Something else to consider, is that the vehicle in question was reverted back to a normal Comet, so the changes made could not have been that drastic. The goal was to turn the Comets (which were only used for training), into anti-tank vehicles. But I highly doubt it was a fixed gun type of thing, as that would not have been easily reverted back to a Comet.

That could also be a reason why there are no pictures... but then again... it would be odd for them not to have ANY.... Maybe they did just shove it into the turret and only made the mantlet hole bigger...

Oh... Ive been meaning to ask, since there are people more knowledgeable than me here:

What did unit markings look like on British Centurions? (Specifically Mk.7-Mk.9 versions).
