There was also something I saw recently on twitter about the Facebook app using your camera while you are scrolling through your feed.  (iOS only, iOS 13+)

FB claims it's a bug... but I think I've read about the use of cameras to track eye motions e.g. what you are looking at.

https://techcrunch.c...one-camera-bug/

If I need to access Facebook via my phone I use my browser to do it. The Facebook app integrated itself too deeply for comfort into my phone and I find I just don't miss it.

I've been debating about even posting some of the news I've been reading... but I saw that Steven Miller thing yesterday I think and I was just... "yup".

Yup.

So, parts of this are sounding sadly familiar:

Not that I agree with his rather cheerful-sounding conclusion at the end.

It did give a breadcrumb to a more interesting story, the same person (McHugh) who gave the Miller emails to the SPLC also supplied emails linking a Homeland Security official to white nationalists as well.  She also is a recovering white nationalist herself who got fired from Brietbart for tweeting something too anti-Muslim for Brietbart........which I didn't know was possible.

https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/rosiegray/katie-mchugh

https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/08/emails-link-former-dhs-policy-analyst-to-white-nationalists/568843/

"She gave me a series of emails that showed that Ian Smith, a Department of Homeland Security official, had associated with members of the white nationalist scene in DC. Using the emails she gave to me, I reported out the story and Smith left DHS. The Washington Post later reported that Smith, who worked on immigration at DHS, attended policy meetings with White House officials as senior as Stephen Miller. At the time, Smith said in a statement, “I no longer work at DHS as of last week and didn’t attend any of the events you’ve mentioned.” Neither he nor DHS disputed that he was on the emails."

On the day the El Paso Walmart reopens as well .

(No, I'm not saying they're related, I've no evidence of that.  Just terrible timing.)

I'm sure there will be appeals.

And as this was a federal conviction, I'm sure the end result will be an Orange Pardon, not an Orange Jumpsuit.

Of note is that one of Stone's associates was thrown out of the courtroom for first refusing to stand for the reading of the verdict, and then turning his back on the jury when he did stand.  The raw utter contempt these people have for any limits or accountability is exactly why they must be held as accountable as possible for their actions.

Oh yeah, I remember a Popular Mechanics or Popular Science (can't remember which) that had that as its cover story.  It made for a good story, but realistically there's no way something that big would be able to be built solely by private funding.

Interesting one of those things he was found guilty of was witness tampering, something Trump was up to himself today on twitter.

There's witness tampering, and then there's literally having the "stones" to issue a death threat to a witness while you're already under direct judge's order to not contact anyone involved in the case.

Roger Stone literally told a witness "you're going to die".

Only a filthy libral judge could misinterpret a clear statement of fact/prediction of the future to be a death threat!!11eleven

Next they're gonna say that border agents going through our electronic devices without a warrant is "unconstitutional"!
