Even if someone wanted to dismantle a nationalized health care system, I have no idea why they'd want to copy the US system of cartels, collusion, price fixing, de facto monopolies, etc.   If they want a market-based system, they should set it up to actually be a market, and not a conglomeration of anti-market elements.

Meanwhile... turns out that one of the major manufacturers of hydroxychloroquine paid Michael Cohen a lot of money for "access to" Don Orange...

Money. The people that want to dismantle the NHS or other nationalized health care systems arent doing it for the betterment of the people they just want to restrict healthcare to the poor and line their own pockets.

Yeah, **** that bull****.

If he didn't have stupid amount of money to keep appealing until he got the result he wanted, he'd still be rotting in jail right now. Someone without those resources would never be able to get to that stage of the 'justice' system.

Changing a jury verdict is absolute ****ing nonsense, and if it happens it should immediately result in a new trial being held, but that isn't going to happen because the rich and powerful get special treatment.

On the bright side, the **** still spent a year in jail over this (which is more than almost all [edited]priests), and he's going to be facing a bunch of other allegations and civil suits now.

EDIT: oh, now the royal commission into the catholic church response to sex abuse can release their findings about that ****, all the gory details about how he covered it up and protected other priests.

"The cool pope" evidently supports the court's decision, and so does the Vatican.

I sure remember Jesus being unfairly persecuted by a jury of his peers after evidence came out of him diddling little boys.

You shouldn't be ashamed to be Catholic any more than I should be ashamed to be American -- you have less say in who sits in those seats than I have of who sits in the Oval Office or Congress.

I know. I try to that's why it is only sometimes even if I don't really care about my religion for years now.

Just remember, contrary to what some people think, your religion isn't something you're born into.  It's something you have to decide for yourself.

Along the lines of what Cipher said, because those things sound like features not bugs.

Oh I definitely know that. Only reason why I do care about it is because my dad and his entire family are quite religious. Since I am away, I do not go to church but whenever when I am with my dad, I do.

I do more praising to the Emperor...

Peter Navarro, of all people, warned Trump about the economic and health threat from COVID19 in way back in January...  if he knew that memo was out there, maybe that explains why he's been so irrationally vehement in pushing Don Orange's sketchy miracle cure beliefs as fact... CYA.

Something's up with the test reporting, hasn't moved in a couple days.  E: testing total went up slightly in the last hour.

Case growth rate has fallen for several days, death rate has not -- I suspect this is a combination of testing bottlenecks, and infections from 2 weeks ago "catching up" in the death column.

Dunno about anyone else, but this whole thing has me mentally/emotionally exhausted.

Since we enjoy making fun of televangelists (who doesn't though, really?):

Decided to take advantage of the fact that my job can't fire me due to pandemic to stay home and avoid making monies.  Given that my mother (who I live with) is has a seriously compromised immune system, I don't want to bring home the virus and kill her

Not killing family members is good.

Well crap, that's bad:

Spoiler

Daily confirmed cases might not be going up much, but that's a large increase in daily deaths.

There's a looooooooot of anger over the Pope's response, because not only is insulting to say Pell was 'persecuted unjustly' and compare him to Jesus, but the Pope is also completely ignoring that it is well proven Pell personally covered up a heap of proven kiddy fiddler priests.

So what happens now does the number of new cases taper off while the number of deaths surges as symptoms start to develop and healthcare is stressed.
