What I mean is that they won't bother making deals at all with "lesser" companies.

It's not like the lesser companies, assuming they are independent (most are not, landscape favors conglomeration too much these days), aren't getting shafted any less right now.

Before the law, any website can be linked to through Facebook, etc, and any company benefits from being linked to.

After the law, only media companies who've arranged deals with Facebook will be linked to, and will get their fees from this racket -- any other journalism site else will get a "sorry, we can't link to that" message.

I'd argue that's a functional improvement. Obviously very flawed, but better than the status quo, and at any rate, small outlets would still be allowed to negotiate with Facebook directly if they opt out of arbitration.

If there's a better way of protecting media, especially local media, I've yet to hear it.

Again, it has nothing to do with "protecting local media".

What annoys me most about the "Bill Gates microchip vaccine" conspiracies isn't that they're dumb (even if they are) but that them being so obviously silly gives him cover from real criticism.

So far California's only attempted solutions to gig workers getting screwed seem to have been hamhanded efforts that would just eliminate gig work.

The "horribly racist" incident that wasn't.

It clicked with me a few days ago, that there's not that much difference between the "Karen" who demands to speak to management to punish an employee for a perceived slight, and the Gen Z who launches a social media campaign over a perceived slight.

Remember when New York's belligerent, proto-authoritarian governor was supposedly some sort of "hero"?

I do wish there was a realignment in how we look at the problem, the problem isn't "gig work" altogether it's giant megacorps like Uber being the gatekeepers for said work.  A small mom and pop has much less ability to exploit that worker, but to Uber it's their bread and butter.

Speaking of gig workers, is the CCP learning from us, or the other way around?

WOWS is in full purge mode.

Flamu was kicked from the CC program, posts are being deleted wholesale from the forums, and I was just banned from the forums permanently for talking about the purge.

Just wish I could send one last message to the [edited]who run that place thanking them for proving me right.

It is a slap on the wrist, for sure, but a step up from what we're apparently able to accomplish at this point.

Unless something nuts happened in the last few days, it was...

They decided to crap all over the captain skill system, a lot of the changes were outright bad for the game, and swaths of ships were ruined.

They were warned by a lot of players, CCs, and testers that the changes were really bad, and of course ignored all the warnings.

The predicted garbage effects on gameplay and specific ships happened when the patch went live.  Wargaming has been totally silent on all concerns, criticisms, and feedback, and has given no indication that they give a [edited]  about the damage they're doing to the game

There's been a general backlash, at least one CC has been kicked from the program for calling WG out, posts that are critical of Wargaming are being deleted wholesale from official venues, and posters who don't pretend everything is fine are being suspended or banned.

Its kinda funny seeing WG struggle with CV balance/engagement/fun when NF got them right almost a decade ago now.

It's funny watching an overall conversation on "the left" in which the wealthy not paying their fair share is attacked, but not making "relief" payments to people with secure 6-figure annual incomes is attacked with anger.
