Why is it that even when an HE shell does 0 damage, it still doesn't count towards damage blocked?

It's because it's not "blocked" but "absorbed". It may not deal HP damage, but it most likely is dealing at least some module damage. Regardless if it actually turns a module orange.

Sometimes it actually sounds like an HE shell bounced as if it were an AP shell.

Because when HE impacts a target, it may not be doing damage to the tank itself, but it is absorbed by modules and armor within a 45° cone in the direction of impact.

If you want an example..Shoot a Maus or E100 with HE in its viewport. It'll most likely take zero damage, but the module will take damage and reduce its effectiveness. The same goes for shooting its turret ring, tracks, and so on.

I made a post on this a while ago, where I wondered the same thing. I think what they should do is make HE non-pens count for blocked damage by calculating Average HE roll - damage dealt = damage blocked

e.g.

Shot by T-54 HE, rolls 70 damage. 400 - 70 = 330 damage blocked

Shot by T-54 HE, 0 damage. 400-0 = 400 damage blocked.

Shot by T-54 HE, pens. Regardless of roll, 0 damage blocked

that's what i think they should do, anyway

That doesn't make sense as to why it shouldn't count as blocked. You can get shot in the track at an angle that it hits the hull still, but it doesn't pen while it still damages your track, and that counts as blocked.

No it doesn't. Shells absorbed by tracks/other modules don't count towards blocked damage.

Since you didn't actually read what i said, the track DID NOT absorb the shell, the shell damaged the track on its way thru to bouncing off the hull. That counts as blocked damage despite the fact that your track was damaged by the shot.

it counts when it does 0 damage, at least in the sandbox server.  i hit a maus with 6 tier 10 French arty shells in which 5 of them bounced and one did 50 HP damage lol. at post game stat, his blocked damage was around 7k  and i strongly suspect that  all my bounced HE was counted as blocked damage since the battle was very fast for him to block all that damage only from my teamates.

Ok...I got 11,300+ dmg total for HT-15 T55A. (Dmg blocked received and done all totaled) I got MANY, MANY HE shells that bounced off me totaling maybe 2K +. They didnt count... So I didnt get my mission. But yet when an AP round dmg's your track on the way to your hull it still counts as dmg blocked? like WHAT?
