Arty is a low hit and poor choice right now . Many of the Maps are not good for arty and the few that are do not really give you a choice but to sit there and take it in the open. The arty is team dependent and it cannot function on its own so again you are taking away an advantage to please a few people. If you try to use arty in TD mode you are again out of luck because of sight picture and poor chances on RNG. It is lightly armoured and cannot deflect many rounds and is at the mercy of very fast lights when the team has all taken off to be heroes and cap, Two sides to every story and yes arty can track vehicle's if they are very lucky but I have used a hell from a GW Panther point blank and been told  that there was no effect. Poor chances of hits weak armour and very low chance of survival depending on competence of team. How many people do you have as data that made unicum on a high percentage of arty hits. Arty gets one shot all the time and we carry on. Low personal points and very slow chance for advancement. So fix hit points , give players a no thanks key when the XVM mod says win chances are below 40% and they can get out . Make experience single person dependent not team dependent.

It should be largely ineffective.

I think arty should have a beehive shell or a ball bearing crapshell to defend itself against quick light tanks. Let is hit ever spot on the rng inside the aiming circle. I have read about the testing being done on sandbox and I think that sandbox is going  the wrong way to fix arty.

There isn't a single map on this game where arty isn't effective. yes that includes city maps. I suggest asking better arty players than yourself where to position on those maps.

What they are doing with arty is a good thing in my opinion. Where have you seen that arty can hit you dead center thru a window with an AP shell from across the map no problems, happened to me on malinovka. But try shooting with a tank fully aimed and the shells go all over the place not hitting where you aim. Even a light tank going at 50km/h can get blown to hell by arty not even aiming properly. Arty should only slow the advance of tanks not blow them off the map with a single shell. Now when there's a battle we get 4 arty players on each team, and what do people do they hide even the heavy tanks are hiding no one is advancing because arty will blow your head clean off with one shell. So i will welcome the new changes to arty with open arms, and if that means it will reduce the number of skycancer so be it

I play arty a lot and enjoy it. It is not for everyone and I think you all have valid points. However IMHO arty does influence key areas in the game play.

1. Prevents camping, yes I know people will camp if they see a lot of arty playing but it prevents camping as well. You cannot sit in the open and sit still, gotta keep moving and that adds to the dynamics of the game.

2. Prevents brawlers from charging forward and overwhelming the team. Bigger tanks  in groups think twice before they move forward when they know/think and arty is aiming for them. I have played the sandbox and yes it stuns them now but they mover forward quickly after using their kits. This means game play is extended and the game has to be strategically approached - as opposed to s shotgun/overpowering approach that makes for a too quick game.

3. It's can be just as frustrating to play arty with all of its weaknesses such as armor, slowness (for the most part), long reload, etc as it if for people to get hit  from out of the blue. But come on, as far as I can tell the skilled players know how to play with an arty looming over them and know how to win the game, it's only the weaker players that complain the most about arty as far as I can tell.  Yes we all get nailed from time to time but learn to deal with it and minimize the risk. I suggest everyone learn to play arty then you will understand how to deal with it. It takes a lot of patience to play arty and to figure out how where to shoot from and how to run a lot. That's the downside, it will still be weak in the major areas it is today without even the capability of killing a tank that is closely approaching it. This is difficult even in the best of circumstances now will be impossible.

In short, I think these wholesale changes for arty will make the game considerably less enjoyable and all this for the sake of new players or unskilled players that like to whine a lot. Particularly since my gut feeling is WOT wants to retain  and attract new players like Sissy and Ma and Pa Kettle and the way to do that is minimize the risk for the dim bulbs among us that don't want to take the time to learn the game but are used to learning new games quickly such as Angry Birds and Candy Crush .  But I get it, that's what keeps the lights on for WOT and pays for many of us to keep playing as well.  I also think there will be a lot more draw games as a result of these changes.

If we had more arty players then players in general would get hit less by arty because they would know how arty targets tanks. Cancer? Cancer is autoloaders, TDs that have long view ranges, tanks in battles with other tanks four tiers higher and players pigeonholing and name calling.

You know this isn't true. The obvious answer is that it should be effective as every other class, or it should be removed.

Knowing how to (mostly) work around artillery and thinking it's a good mechanic are two completely different things. Artillery in its current state just punishes everything skill-based except camo-sniping. Active scouting, hull down, angling armor, map positioning, poking when no (non-arty) tanks are looking or loaded, etc... are all often negated (or highly limited, depending on the map) due to highly RNG dependant, high-damage HE shells that do 1/3rd to 1/4 of your health in one hit, if you're lucky.

HE in general is an anti-skill mechanic. "It does damage every time" may be a joke saying, but it's also true of the high-alpha HE guns, and it completely negates needing any armor knowledge, or accuracy.

I don't see nerfing artillery making it easier for new players; I think to most new players artillery is just another thing that randomly does damage to them on top of unlit tanks and tanks they didn't notice. Instead, I think an artillery nerf it going to make it easier far experienced players to exploit armor and positioning without having to hope artillery doesn't decide to shoot them.

I'd love to see the actual statistics behind some of the griping that is being done who think arty "one shots" everything on a regular basis. I would say that the stats dont fit the conclusion that arty needs to be nerfed. But hey you guys keep getting hit by those HE shells slung by the heavies every 15 seconds so im sure that eventually we shall hopefully see a nerf to any tank shooting HE to be given the same characteristics as arty.

I wish I didn't have to.  Thousands of games in it and I'm down to three last spg missions for the object 260.
