So, what is your favourite movie and why?

Honestly, I have so many favourites it's difficult to list them all in one post, but I will try and start us off anyway. Many of them are classics like Star Wars {the entire series}, of course, and Quest For Fire, Smoke Signals, Das Boot, Platoon, To Kill A Mockingbird, and almost anything with John Wayne {and most other classic Westerns}, but one of my recent favourites is this one by Michael Moore:

Anyway, please share your favourites, both past and current.

~Cheers!

This is the best film I have ever seen. bar none. ever. Japanese, Western, or otherwise. of any Genre.

go watch it. no, I don't want to hear you protest because "its anime" GO WATCH IT. Maybe anime haters would actually realise anime is not anywhere close to what they think it is by watching this...

(also its in english as well if you don't like subtitles)

+1 for Michael Moore, that guy is a true American

but my favorite is still The Big Lebowski, it is simply perfect.

otherwise I'll take nearly anything directed by Wes Anderson

17 years of Hugh Jackman playing this legendary character. What a way to end Wolverine.

Logan is a must watch IMO

high noon.  just a great story and I love the way it builds to the end.

and for comedy, blazing saddles (mel brooks) or a day at the races (marx brothers).  oldschool comedy genius.

I am an oldster and Casablanca was and is still one one of my all time favorites. It was made during WWII and most young people today have never seen it and might not like it anyway since it has such a complicated but fascinating plot.....nor does anything blow up real good in the film. Ha. Moreover it would not make a lotta sense to many these days unless they have a real good understanding of WWII history.  Gotta know about Vichy France. What the hell are the Germans doing in Morocco? Etc. Etc. I also think it may have the most enduring lines of any movie ever made....

"Play it Sam.  Play it!"

"Round up the usual suspects"

"But we will always have Paris"

"Of all the gin joints in the world she has to walk into mine"

"Reek!  Save me. Save me!"

"I don't stick my neck out for no one"

"I am closing this establishment down!"  "Why?" "I am shocked, shocked, to find that gambling is going on here." "Your winnings sir."  "Thank you."

Etc. etc.

OH...also Ingrid Bergman was just flat out gorgeous in that film. Real class.

The Spirit of St Louis with James Stewart. I guess not for everyone but I loved it as a kid and still do.  I had read the book before I saw the movie and the book is great. Charles Lindbergh. 1927. Alone and over the Atlantic at night. 331/2 hours. His skill and heroic effort just amazed me as a kid.
