Curious to get some feedback from the community about this topic, because I've played a fair number of turretless TDs in my nearly 10,000 games and I rather enjoy them and do fairly well in them.

My question is simply: why play turretless TDs and put yourself at a disadvantage against other tanks that have turrets?

As a follow up, what, if any, changes would you make to turretless TDs if you could? Personally I'd like to see gun dispersion lowered when moving the gun within the arc of fire (without moving the tracks, of course).

I play them because I enjoy them more than turreted tanks. I just feel more comfortable in them.

As for changes, I would like the ability to use the zoom in function in any direction. Currently when you go into sniper mode you can't look beyond the gun arc at all, even with the hull locked.

typically more accurate guns that make a bigger boom.

personally i dont think any TD should be turreted, just confused me when i was a new player, i was like "wthwhy does that TD have a turret, shouldnt it just be a heavy" ?

on the old maps, they removed, a turretless td ha far more choices where to sit and hide. also could relocate easily and hide again waiting for victims. sadly, on the wheatfield maps, this doesn't happen anymore, so once you shoot a few times, you got nowhere to run too. they took out these wonderful maps, yet left you with tds on the current maps that don't play that well as they should. tds need cover, current maps lack this, and only supply the obvious cover. after a few games, players know where you will be every time...

Because most actual US TDs were turreted.....

The idea is that turretless TDs should have some kind of advantage to compensate for their lack of a turret, like superior camo and DPM.  Of course, there are exceptions where a turreted TD seems to have the same or better armour, mobility, and firepower that a same-tier turretless TD has; I consider those to be game-balancing mistakes.

I have always loved the look of ' clean tank destroyers '

There is nothing ' unnecessary ' just the clean frontal plate,

with the strong ( most cases ) cannon and low profile looks.

In my eyes the ' turret ' in the vehicles does break it's looks.

And makes it look ugly.

When I did start this ' product ' in 2011 My first line was German TD line.

I really wanted to play the Jagdpanther, beautiful machine indeed.

The ' meta ' in this game once was so much more strategical and intelligent.

Now it is mostly ' corridors ' and all kinds of ' firing possibilities ' have mostly been removed.

From the time compared to the past, but YET while being intelligent you can gain advantages.

I never was able to ' change ' my class of play however ( or did want ), even with the ' meta ' changes.

I just love Tank Destroyers too much, I find this ' class ' of vehicles the most beautiful.

4 years ago I found my most loved ' Tank Destroyer ' as well,

the E-25 of mine who is what I am as a person.

I am that ' Old Tank Destroyer ' player, ' Old Dog ' I guess.

I never wanted to leave this class, and I never will.

I believe in strategical play, I am ' Tank Hunter '

' Disadvantage ' ? No my friend, if you are intelligent player.

I love Tank Destroyers.

Good Luck.

Working on that one now, actually. I have 50k XP left to grind using the 152mm derp... which has actually been quite fun to use. Nothing quite like one-shotting tier 6s (in the SU-152 mostly) to brighten up your day.

I love assault mode in my T28 when top tier. Sniper mode when bottom tier, not so much (when my 250mm frontal melts like butter).

That's a good point you bring up. Which are the best maps for turretless TDs? Definitely nothing city based and closed in, that's for sure. I tend to have my best games on Erlenberg, or Prokhorovka.

And yes, assault mode defense is my favourite game mode in a turretless TD. Let them come!

I like both forms of TDs. The turretless normally have more armor and a larger gun. However, when you rotate your hull you break camo (unless your a siege mode Swed) so that's a big negative. Unless you bush hump the red line like purple cancer text Gansai you will eventually get spotted rotating.

Turret TD's are a bit more "user friendly". You can hide and stay camo'd as you rotate around to make shots. You can also side scrape some to protect your normally weaker armor.

They generally get better firepower, frontal armor, or both.

I've played Casemate TDs for many years and simply play them because of the "fun" factor, which, btw, has been reduced by the current meta. How can you not enjoy the "BOOM" of the ISU152's BL-10? or the excellent overall qualities of the SU-122-44? I would like better camo value after I shoot in my ISU152. If I can get in 3 or more shots per battle, I feel like I am contributing.

Do I really love specific Tank Destroyers? Yes.

Do I play my dearest E-25 a lot, being my loved Tank Destroyer and myself ? Yes.

Do I care that you say me to be ' One Trick Pony ' ? No.I wish to develop myself as much as I can with what I love.

Do I enjoy while being myself and having top notch results ? Yes.

Do I think that you should DO WHAT YOU LOVE even if humans have issues with it ? Yes.

Was something I told in that message incorrect ? No, therefore it is best to ' listen '

Good Luck to you, my friend.

For some absolutely but overall no unless you just want to struggle or just "play" passive and bush fap while missing or bouncing more than half your shots. Turretless TDs should have good handling yet the vast majority do not and are gimped horrendously in their soft stats thanks to all the people who spammed this class over a three or four year period.

Get a T30 for high tier play and if you are a degenerate seal clubber there is really nothing better than a T67 if you can cobble together a three or four perk crew with camo and medium/scout perks to help with vision and handling.
