WG, how does a machine gun pen heavy tanks? Or any tank for that matter.

I wish we had machine guns to kill the crews of arty and open TDs.  Would liven things up.

There is a difference between a machine gun and an autocannon. The Pz 1c uses a machine gun, however the Luchs above it uses a 30mm autocannon that can shred tier six heavy tanks when used properly. Also, some tanks can only mount autocannons or machine guns

Because this is an arcade game and not a simulator.  Plus that is how WG designed them.

Enough said!

They have their weaknesses too.  Limited range, bad accuracy, especially on the move, lower pen.  In the right hands, the Luchs (and Leopard after it) are deadly, but it's not that easy to do.

I can't think of a tank that has a machine gun/ auto cannon that doesn't require more skill to play than your average tank.

Armor piercing rounds.  Also, just because a tank is classed as a heavy, that doesn't mean it has effective armor and just because a tank is classified as a light, doesn't mean that the armor is paper thin.

Hell, I don't know a single machine gun that can pen a heavy tank frontally except for the 3cm on german lights.

Before you say MT-25, it faces quite high tier heavies, so it can't pen them frontally.

OP, please, you are supposed to follow the current Forum policies of either listing a specific tank as op, or if not, then state that Arty is op.  Pls dont rage against another grouping of tanks at this time.

okay.. now that that is out of the way, the machine gun tanks do have issues with modest armor.  Pz1c vs KV1, the duck, the Matilda are all possible. The king of the machine gun tanks will suffer there.  They will suffer if faced with armor that is thicker than aluminum foil.

How does an 88mm shell traveling at over 1000m/sec hit something soft like a track and do -- nothing?  Because RNG said so.

So, a Mg splattering shells all over a vehicle which has lot's of moving parts, small slits for vision, hydraulics, external fuel containers, vents, perhaps a defect in the turret ring... etc... can (with enough shots) do some damage.

Simple, RNG said so.

The really light tanks from the prewar era had only enough armour to defend against rifles, which led the Brits to create the Boys anti-tank rifle, and yes, machine guns firing armour piercing bullets that could penetrate some tanks.

Because MG's get armor piercing bullets too.

I killed a Marder recently with my Pz1C and he reported me for some illegal mod, lol.

I'd post his comment here but apparently the servers are down.

The one that bothers me is the pz1c uses 8x57 IS and has more pen than the combat car with a 50BMG. That's just plain wrong.

Incorrect, the PZIC does use a 7.92 mm bullet but the case is 94mm not the standard 57mm.

hmm... Would that really be enough to have more pen than 50?

:popcorn:Alright, anyone here care to give the OP a physics lesson? I'm far too lazy and have not had coffee yet.

Also, if he/she is talking about the Pz1C, I believe the round on the mg is a ...... aw, I don't really care.......

Yes and no...more skill to play well.

Many autoloader drivers will drive up and park in front of the first tank they come to and trade a clip for one or two shots and then get killed while they reload.  Poor stupid play but it also makes it a crappy game for the poor sucker they donkey rushed into.

As I recall there was a proposed m48 patton variant with a GAU-8 Avenger mounted as the main armament. We should petition WG to add that just to make OP mad :P
