Why do people call arty charging in "TD mode" when all TD's do is camp in the back?

Some in-game TD's were actually arty (SU-76), and some arty were TD's (SU-5).

So, a few TD's are direct fire artillery... That should mean if an arty were to go direct fire it would become a TD.

I prefer "shotgun" mode.

Ahhh... that makes more sense. Thanks

Maybe refering to the fact that most arties and TDs are turretless. So when an arty goes direct fire mode, he's like a turretless TD.
