I've noticed that too.  Something seems to want to default to Windows and the lower 1024 x 1120* resolution setting (still don't know what the asterisk means).

I believe the * means you are using your computer's default graphic settings....i.e. whatever you have Windows set to.

Window mode = Window graphic settings ONLY

Full screen mode = you can set custom resolution for the game.

I checked the Windows display setting and it is 2560 x 1440 (recommended).

I thought maybe the asterisk had something to do with vertical vs. horizontal lines of resolution since it's the only option where the second number is higher than the first and my screen is 16:9

Yep...and I made a mistake.  My screen resolution is not 1920 x 1080, it's 2560 x 1440 which is only available in Full Screen mode.  (Windows is set to default to 2560 x 1440)

I switched Graphics Settings to Full Screen and 2560 x 1440 and it does make a difference so for me the choice while gaming becomes better graphics while playing vs. flexibility to do other things while the game is open.

***Or is there someway to minimize the game while playing with a Full Screen that I don't know about?

Alt-Tab will switch you to other things you are running. I have found though that since the patch that it won't switch me back to my desktop without having to go through Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up the task manager if I don't have something actually opened. But if I have anything actually open like Google Chrome, and Excel or Word file etc, then it will allow me to select them and WoT will drop to the taskbar whereupon I can then just click it to go back in. Initially after the patch I would get reduced to a windowed setup and would have to manually switch back to full screen, but the micro-patch fixed that issue.

Hit the "Windows" key and it will minimize the game.

Thanks everybody.  Both of those solutions - "Windows key"  and "Alt/Tab" solved my problem.  Not quite as convenient as having a hidden task bar/menu in Windows mode but close enough and I think the improvement in the graphics is worth it.  ;)

I'll try that.  I like the windowed mode because it enables the hidden task bar at the bottom so I can check email, forum, google, etc while waiting to play or while messing around with the Tech Tree or other aspects of the game.  Full screen appears to disable that feature so I have to be committed to WoT only.

When in windowed mode and you want to click things on the task bar my system keeps running WoT through the video unless I minimize it before opening the task bar function desired.     I can hear the video card fan whenever WoT is using it.     It keeps running unless the WoT window is minimized.

Alt+Tab will get you to the desktop. Click WoT in the taskbar to come back into game.

If your KB has the feature, IMO disable the windows key, its so close to the task bar, z and ctrl (all used in game) that hitting it at the wrong moment can mean certain destruction.
